About this listen

On December 7, 1941, America was thrust violently into World War II when Japan launched a devastating surprise attack on the U.S. naval installation at Hawaii's Pearl Harbor. This absorbing, enlightening, powerfully dramatic collection is the ultimate chronicle of what President Franklin Delano Roosevelt called "a date that will live in infamy."

At Dawn We Slept: The Untold Story of Pearl Harbor, 37 years in the making, tells the story of Pearl Harbor from both the American and Japanese perspectives. Pearl Harbor: The Verdict of History places the attack in a larger context via a fascinating look at its precursors and consequences. And December 7, 1941 is a riveting, moment-by-moment account that captures the diplomatic intrigue, the brutal combat, and the human beings whose lives were irrevocably altered on that fateful morning.

Hawaiian Language

Great book. My only complaint was the narrator mispronounced every Hawaiian word. Knowing the Hawaiian language it was like fingers scraping on a chalk board every time he mispronounced them.

The startling detail of the attack!

All Americans in “this” frighteningly similar time should listen to how the attitudes of our country men back then, matched those of many of our similarly short sighted present day people! Sadly, we lack the caliber of those who purport to lead us in our equally perplexing time! As an old man, whose time is short, I shudder to think what trials we have to face,And if we will awaken to reality soon enough, to counter them!

Another Retelling

The authors brought slightly different views and addressed the rumors of who knew what when. The third volume brought tears to my eyes, thinking of the infamy of the enemy and their treachery.

Excellent synopsis of Pearl Harbor

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend this selection as a great way to get acquainted or reacquainted with the events surrounding the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Prange's exhaustive research is renowned and these three summaries provide an excellent way to view the attack from the Japanese perspective, the military perspective in Hawaii, and political-military perspective in Washington.

Good story

The story and writing of this book is good. Its basically a collection of several shorter stories. The audio quality though is definitely lacking. It sounds like an old cassette tape. Its at least passable though.
