About this listen
A completely gripping psychological thriller packed with suspense
Perfect boyfriend. Perfect liar. Perfect killer?
Her
I am on my way home, thinking only of the quiet, happy evening to come, when I see something completely impossible, and my heart stops dead. I would recognise those gorgeous pale blue eyes anywhere. It’s him. The high-school boyfriend I adored… Until the day he vanished without a trace.
I run towards him, my pulse racing. He turns, politely, a puzzled look on that familiar face. ‘I’m sorry,’ he says. ‘Do I know you?’
I need answers. I’m certain he’s lying. I just have to prove it.
Him
Of course you recognised me. Always so keen, always trying to do right by everyone.
It’s typical of my bad luck that we happened to run into each other.
I left this place for a reason–one you never knew. And now I’m back, I have plans.
And I’m afraid, my dear, that you’re getting in my way…
A completely gripping story of betrayal, lies and secrets that will have you open-mouthed at the twists. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, Ruth Ware and Gillian Flynn.

Story
I used to enjoy my job. I was good at it and felt fulfilled. I also used to enjoy spending time with the people I worked with. They say you spend more time with your work colleagues than you do with your family members, but that was fine by me because I made two very good friends at the office. I also allowed myself to get a little too close to my boss, but I soon realized that was a mistake. Unfortunately, it was too late by then, and as my personal and professional lives quickly blurred into one, that was when everything changed.

Story
I’ve been married to my kind, loving husband Lachlan for over twenty years. He’s my everything. We have two teenage children, a beautiful home and I feel so lucky to live this perfect life. Until my best friend says something that makes me doubt everything… She whispers it’s strange Lachlan has lived nearby to two unsolved murder cases. First, the murder of the woman in the small, Scottish village where he grew up and more recently the shocking death of a woman who lived round the corner from us. The thought makes my head spin. It’s just a coincidence, surely?

On the last day of school, my friends and I gather on the beach to celebrate the long summer ahead. The next morning, we find shy newcomer Pippa on the beach, sandflies gathering on her lifeless body…

Story
I look at our neighbours gathered in the garden for our annual summer barbeque, sipping chilled wine and smiling at my two daughters sprawled on the grass. I go inside to help refill glasses and then I hear it. A shrill scream that stops me in my tracks. I race outdoors to silence, a sea of bewildered faces. My first thought is for my girls, but they are there unhurt. With relief, we push the chilling sound to the back of our minds, returning to our drinks and conversations like it never happened.

Story
I’ve never felt welcome in my husband Dominic’s family home. His parents make it clear I’m a poor comparison to his perfect first wife, Carla. But we’re here for Christmas, so it’s important to pretend everything is fine. Until Dominic’s mother bustles into our bedroom. Smiling thinly, she blindsides me: ‘You won’t mind, will you. Carla is coming for the holidays. She’s still one of the family to us, and she can’t get home because of the storm.’ My eyes widen—did she and Carla plan this on purpose? I know Dominic won’t say a thing. He never stands up to his parents.

Feeling self-conscious as I notice a thread coming loose on my dress, he pours me a glass of wine and I take in the pristine room and expensive furnishings. Everything here is perfect, too perfect. Where are the personal touches, the souvenirs from his life? Where are the photos of his friends and family? ‘You can trust me,’ Alex says as he hands me the wine, and my heart beats wildly in my chest. I really want this to work, especially after the disaster of my last relationship.

Story
Sophie is perfect. She has blonde hair and blue eyes and when she smiles her wide, open, caring smile, her teeth sparkle. Everybody loves her. So would I, except she’s my husband Mike’s best friend, and sometimes they seem a little too close for comfort. This summer, Sophie is renting the grand house next door, bringing over fancy wine, offering to babysit our beautiful three-year-old daughter. It’s nice, actually. She’s smart and funny. Maybe the way she is with Mike–squeezing his arm, tilting her head when she laughs at his jokes–is just how she is with everybody.

Absolutely great!
I was completely hooked from the first chapter till the he last. This is just my kind of book. A phycological thriller/domestic drama. With well developed characters that I cared about and great narration it flows smoothly.

The slow progress of the first 4 hours
Let me preface this by telling you I am a huge fan of SE Lynes.
That said this story was interesting,
However the first 4 hours were very slow and repetitive. Looking for Joan could have been half of that time. Over and over the same thing and nothing happened.
Now after that torture the story moved to a fact pace was interesting snd tied the story up nicely.

Excitement awaits! A winning combination…
… S.E. Lynes and Tamsin Kennard deliver one of my most anticipated listens. I love my British mysteries and for good reason. The perfectly paired Lynes and Kennard join forces again to bring us yet another brilliant thriller. “The Perfect Boyfriend” is captivating and wicked; it had me hooked from the very start. Lynes precisely interweaves twisty turns and jaw-dropping surprises throughout that had me shouting out loud to Alexa. Kennard's pitch-perfect vocals add depth and emotion to the narrative, making it difficult to take any kind of a break. It all begins with a chance encounter between two former high school sweethearts. But as they reconnect, it becomes clear that something is off. Puzzling behavior and the determination to uncover the truth set off a chain of events that had me nervously and anxiously listening. With its intricate subplots, oddly relatable characters and proficient narration, "The Perfect Boyfriend" is a must-have. I’m telling ya, there isn’t one dull moment. Lynes and Kennard have once again proven themselves to be a winning team, delivering a unique and memorable listening experience. I’ve accumulated quite a vast collection of books by these two exquisitely talented women and I’m always on the lookout for more. Epic, indeed!

The amazing narrator saved this book.
I truly enjoy this author, but this book was just bad. There is absolutely no mystery. Everything is phoned in since the beginning. The main character is just there asking id 2 plus 2 is 4 the entire time. The surrounding characters seem brain dead or completely uncaring towards her. Semi spoiler:
Weirdly, one character is female but the author wants you to believe it is a male. then the big reveal at the end, like anybody cares. even though, it kinda explains the complete lack of protective instinct
