A telepathic dog. An ancient prophecy. Two devious faeries. Abby Fletcher must unravel their connection when she is thrown into a world of unknowns after receiving a mysterious message from a frightening beast: The Red King must set me free. Determined to discover the meaning of this puzzling phrase, Abby sets off to explore a nearby Scottish mountainside in search of clues. What Abby doesn't realize, however, is that it's not a matter of where she will find her answers but when. Whisked back to the early 14th century, Abby must find the courage to solve the mystery of the Red King and save not only herself but a group of powerless captives wrapped up in a faerie plot.

The Red King Trilogy, Book One

A great start to a trilogy that promises to bring a lot more exciting adventures. I really enjoyed this first book and look forward to the other two in this series, The writing is excellent with an exciting storyline for this unique book.

Joshua Young's narration is wonderful, the voices used are consistent throughout the book. His voice adds to the adventure with the wide variety of voices and emotions used,

Sweet Little Lore

Well told little tale in the vein of Celtic lore. Impressed by this female lead brought to life by a male narrator - well done!

Delightful!

What made the experience of listening to The Phantom of Faerie Mountain the most enjoyable?

The story and the narration weave together seamlessly in this story. The contrast of the ancient Scottish folktale with the modern day heroine, Abby, and the culture clash that ensues when Abby is transported back in time is just delightful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The heroine, Abby, is a great character but I'm also partial to the dog.

Which character – as performed by Joshua Young – was your favorite?

All of them! Mr. Young is a master of accents, I'm still not sure whether he is actually Scottish or American. His accent is very Scottish when he reads the Scottish characters, completely American when he reads the American characters and lightly Scottish when he reads the authors voice. It's absolutely perfect.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved this book! It made me want to share it with every Young Adult I know.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend The Phantom of Faerie Mountain. This would be great for a long family car trip because it has appeal to kids and adults alike.

It's been done before

Any additional comments?

Not exactly a new story here, pretty much a generic retread. The story is a condensed version of most modern fantasy books. Girl meets mysterious green dog, dog takes girl back in time as she is the only one who can save him and her long lost mother. Girl meets unassuming warrior. Both unwittingly save the day from mean green faeries. The narrator does a pretty good job with different accents, but his pace is too fast. There's never a pause or break between characters or changes in the story. Not an entirely unpleasant listen, but I've read and/or heard this story before.

Keeps you guessing until the end.

Any additional comments?

Well written and interesting, with humor and an imaginative story. The audio version was very helpful to me, because of some vision problems, and the various accents add the "flavor" of Scotland. To sum it all up, I just plain liked it!
