Strange new talents....

Jake is a scrappy orphaned pickpocket living by his wits on the streets of Victorian London. Lately he’s started seeing ghosts and discovers he can move solid objects with his mind! He has no idea why. Next thing he knows, a Sinister Gentleman and his minions come hunting him. On the run for his life, Jake is plunged headlong into a mysterious world full of magic and deadly peril. A world that holds the secret to who he really is: the long-lost heir of an aristocratic family - with magical powers!

But with treacherous enemies closing in, it will take all of his wily street instincts and the help of his friends - both human and magical - to solve the mystery of what happened to his parents, and defeat the foes who never wanted the Lost Heir of Griffon to be found....

Good story

The story was fantastic. It kept moving at a decent pace. I will say that it is geared towards a younger audience but some adults will enjoy it as well. If you like magic and adventure where the main character is the hero then you’ll love this book. As an American some of the British slang was hard to decipher but if you understand the context of how the slang term is being used you can figure it out.

Kitchen sink of fantasy stories

A little bit of everything. Orphans turning into lords. Telekinesis, ghosts, fairies, queens, evil uncles, beauty and the beast type servitors, little mermaid villains, gryphons, angels, heaven, etc.

Looking at the list you might think I didn't like it, but my daughter and I enjoyed listening to this book on a long ride and finished it when we got home. The characters were good and the narration was great. Overall an enjoyable experience.

The Lost Heir

A child is being searched for by 'family' and a protector. He has no idea who he really is.His parents are dead,he is an orphan. He finds a motley crew and his adventure begins. This book is similar to many young adult books of today.Great narration by Jamie du Pont Mackenzie has us believing every character is real.I was given this book free for an honest review.

A fun read but borrows many themes from others

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the book, it was a good listen which I was happy to keep turning on during the car trip. Younger listeners were riveted and couldn't wait. Well read listeners will be quick to note the many borrowed themes in the book, orphan gets magical powers at 13, main characters making stupid decisions, history lessons, and an over protective body guard. Despite this I don't think anyone will be disappointed with this book.
