Critic reviews

"Dorian Gray, hedonistic and decadent, makes a Faustian pact to keep his youthful beauty as captured in his portrait. The story, lit by Wilde's aphoristic sparkle, is brilliant, as is Rupert Grave's finely judged narration." ( The Observer)

Great listen

My teenagers and I listened to this while on a car trip. The narrator had a good voice and style, the pace was very good. It held our interest. I felt it was as good as reading the book, which I did many years ago.

The folly of youth

It has been many years sense I have read this book, I decided I wanted to year it and I found this version. I could have not been more happy, 1st of all this is a wonderful example of how many times the innocent of youth can also be the naivey of youth. Dorian is a very young man who is taken with his own hype and the fact that he’s so stricking is his gift and his curse. It seems in the middle of all the admiration Dorian gets it comes to his attention that the future of getting old and sick may be his undoing, after siting for a stunning painting of him self he makes a wish to always be young and beautiful and they he would sell his soul to have that happen, He wishes that the painting shows all the wear and tear of his life. What happens is the fact that the painting because in many ways the outward manifestation of his souls and all the ugliness that has come about. There are so many lessons to learn here about vanity and about self awareness, but more than that it’s about humility and how important that is to being human.

Excellent narration

This narration of "Dorian Gray" makes the characters come alive - very animated! It is a shame this only lasts 2 hours.
