Publisher's summary

England, 1812

Seventeen-year-old Lady Lucinda wants her freedom back. But an orphaned young woman has no property rights in regency England; indeed, she has few rights at all....

After Lucinda's father is killed in action, he leaves her under the guardianship of a former pirate, the devastatingly handsome Captain Riel Montclair. Riel is a barbaric rogue, however, as he demonstrates the very first evening he arrives. Montclair clearly has a will of iron, which frustrates Lucinda beyond measure.

Even more distressing, once Riel signs the legal papers with the solicitor, he will not only dictate her choice of a husband, but he'll financially control her centuries old estate, Ravensbrook, too. Neither idea sits well with Lucinda, who has ruled her own life for the past two years.

Is Montclair planning to plunder Ravensbrook for his own personal gain? Additionally, Lucinda overhears him telling his disreputable-looking first mate that if the British Navy becomes suspicious of his past, he will lose his ship. What dastardly secret is he hiding?

How could her tender-hearted father have come to trust such a dangerous man? Lucinda must protect Ravensbrook, and her future, at all costs. But how far is she willing to go to get Riel out of her life, and ensure her freedom?

Overdramatically fulfilling.

despite the predictable plotline (but aren't they all by now). This book held my interest and had me looking forward to it every night I read. Of course it's fabio-esque like cheesy and I loved every second of it. The enemies to lovers trope is my absolute favorite though, but for some reason the slow burn wholesome story was refreshing from the overly detailed sex scenes other every chapter that I read too often.

Sweet Romance

I thought this was a lovely story. Lucinda was a little bit too young of a heroine for me but it was still a fun fairytale-like adventure. There were a few historical inaccuracies but now I'm just being picky. I would definitely recommend this book if you like a nice slow but sweet romance!

I LOVE IT. BEST ADVENTURE YET !!!!!

AN EXCELLENT LOVE STORY. LEAVES ME WANTING A CONTINUATION. ADVENTURE, DRAMA, ROMANCE AND THE LONGING FOR THAT WHICH YOUR HEART DESIRES MOST.

AN EXCELLENT STORY BY THE AUTHOR. WELL WRITTEN AND ACCEPTABLE FOR YOUNG ADULTS IN ALL OTHERS.
NARRATOR WAS GREAT AND EASY TO FOLLOW.

HONESTLY LEASE ME CONTEMPLATING SIMILAR ACTS OF PIRACY MYSELF
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A ROGUE AND A PIRATE. I UNDERSTAND THE HEROES PART WELL.

A drag of story with a horrid and extremely foolish heroine

I don’t know how I was able to endure this story with it’s at best mediocre narration. The only thing that kept me going was wanting to know the details of Riel’s past. Riel was too good for the annoying, belligerent and stupid heroine. I have never hated a heroine this much!
The plot had some potential but in my opinion was poorly executed. The dialogue and interactions were far from regency era. The author’s poor attempt to create the angst she intended is laughable.
I don’t like to write poor reviews. I simply don’t rate the book that is not to my taste. However, I have not had such a bad a unpleasant experience with this audible, that was so far from its current rating that I felt compelled to express my opinion. I believe the narrator was not able to perform well enough to salvage this childish novel.
