About this listen

Anna is devastated by a fire that leaves her orphaned, dependent on an uncle she never knew existed, and far from the only home she has ever known. Brendan struggles with a life limited by crippling illness and a family torn by the loss of his mother. In order to unite their fractured kingdoms, Tzutz Nik faces an arranged marriage to the prince of a ruthless dynasty. A mysterious invitation gives them each an opportunity to escape their struggles for a while and view their lives from new perspectives.

Deep in a remote jungle, amid long-forgotten ancient ruins, they discover the true meaning of sacrifice. A relentless, evil presence lurks in the shadows, threatening to lead them astray. Will they triumph over their adversary, or be trapped in his web of lies?

Good for a young teen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend with an older child, who wanted to teach him or her about life and choices.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I did not have a character that was a favorite.

Have you listened to any of Felisha Caldeira’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of her previous work, but I enjoyed her voice, and the voices that she used for the characters. It was easy to imagine the story as it unfolded.

Predictable story, but excellent narrator!

this book was interesting to say the least. It is about some young kids who go through a journey together to help discover themselves. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but that is the gist of it. I can see where the other was going with the plot, but for me it was a little to predictable. On another note, I thought that some of the lines pushed the moral/premise of the book a little to mush. I rather enjoy books that make you have to think, but with this one, I knew why the other wrote it a few chapters in (which added to the predictability). It is not a bad book by any means, I enjoyed it throughly. It was just not to my liking.

However the reason why I kept listening was the unbelievable narrator. I was introduced to Felisha Caldeira in her first book Polishing Jade (which I highly recommend to everyone), and was hooked. Whereas in Polishing Jade she narrated in a southern accent, this audiobook she narrated with an American accent. That wasn't the shocking part however, the shocking part was that there were so many different characters from so many different nationalities that Felisha had to narrate, and she excelled at it. I can't imagine how she did it, all I know is it is nothing short of spectacular. Felisha had me hooked from Polishing Jade, and this just enhances my enthusiasm for her narration, I can't wait to listen to whatever book comes out next!

Fun story; great narration!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to children, young teenagers, and their parents. It offers an interesting and imaginative story that engages history and identity. The book does have strong Christian overtones which could help Christian parents discuss the faith with their children.

What about Felisha Caldeira’s performance did you like?

Felisha brings life to this story with her engaging voice. She is able to capture both the lighthearted moments of exploration and the deeper moments of self examination. All of this enables listeners to become truly immersed in the narrative.

Any additional comments?

This is an easily read book that could be especially engaging for young families. While the individual stories of each primary character can seem choppy at times, the overall narrative of the book holds them together. The narration, in particular, helps bring listeners into this story.

Adventure filled with fantasy!!

I enjoyed the lovely descriptions and the moral values presented throughout. I think this story would be great for YA. The narrator had a very pleasing voice as she portrayed all of the accents through out her wonderful narration.

A Place of Voices

I listened to the Audible version of this book.I tried to get into the storyline but was taken aback everytime the 'one true god and all that he has made' was mentioned.Had I known I was getting into a christian fantasy I would have passed, since I am a godless heathen.I found it also VERY slow going.
Felisha Marie Caldera does the narrations and has a soothing, sing song voice that can lull you to sleep.
Anna,an Aussie girl,Brenden a boy who has polio and a Mayan princess are thrown together in a fantasy where animals talk and bring them essentials. They're on a mission, but they don't know what it is.They will have hard decisions to make.
I was given this book for a fair and honest review.

Um The Bible in fairy language?

It started out great..3 sad soles taken to a quiet place to gain perspective on their future lives.
Then, it became good. Something was very familiar.
The devil monster appeared with the "apple".
the elixer of feel good. The fairy story continues to reach its climax. throw in a little pyramid..a bit of ancient history and a modern bit. You know I think I'm actually put off by the deception. ? Isn't that funny?
