Publisher's summary

The whole world has a stake in the war against poverty and leaders across the globe are looking for a permanent solution. That's why economist Barry Asmus and theologian Wayne Grudem have teamed up to outline a robust proposal for fighting poverty on a national level. These two experts believe the solution lies in a comprehensive development plan that integrates the principles of a free market system with the Bible's teachings on social ethics. Speaking to the importance of personal freedom, the rule of law, private property, moral virtue, and education, this book offers a clear path for promoting economic prosperity and safeguarding a country's long-term stability - a sustainable solution for a world looking for the way forward.

Best read ever on solving world wide poverty

Poverty of Nations explains in detail why so many nations remain in poverty and how to help them lift themselves out to enjoy a nation that thrives. If you are not a Christian now you may consider being one after seeing how God has so graciously laid out basic principles to help us prosper greatly. Excellent read, every politician and world leader should study this information thoroughly.

A great book I learned a lot from

It was a great book and a learning experience. A bit difficult at times and many economic terms I never have heard before. But surely a book that I will be able to apply in the work that I am doing daily.

Thank k you for a good book

Must read, with caution though...

If you could sum up The Poverty of Nations in three words, what would they be?

The material by itself is insightful even though somewhat naive sometimes. Some parts of the book are real stuff and some are plain indoctrination and brainwashing. Some spots simply show how strong is the distortion of the Bible is caused by cultural background. So, the book is a great read and even a must read, though for those only who already have critically studied their own worldviews against Biblical truths. Otherwise it will lead you to believe something that is simply not true... While authors stick to the economy – they were doing fine, when they went into politics – they’ve failed to see many things that are facts in the world outside the US worldview and are backed by the Bible. Authors even contradicted what they’ve said when they were speaking about economics. ))) Not sure I should buy Grudem’s work on politics, even though it was next in my wish-list…

It’s not a secret.

The authors get to work right away in giving their answer to national poverty: lack of productivity.

Very helpful book.

Highlights:
Giving cash or resources will not cure poverty.
Local government does more to encourage poverty than global influences.
Fear of God (in the context of the gospel) is an awesome motivator for productivity.

Excited to read but completely lost interest.

I'm a professional product designer, this author unfortunately is using this topic to preach about God which I can appreciate the parallel however the manner in which he promotes christianity is alienating. I'm so tired of people dividing people and that's how he failed. This book is a product just like everything else humans engage. Be like jesus.
