Publisher's summary

This mesmerizing original short story - a prequel to The Sleepwalker - from Chris Bohjalian, best-selling author of The Sandcastle Girls and The Guest Room, tells the tale of one strange summer when a pair of horses die, an odd boy moves to a small Vermont town, and a woman rises from her bed and disappears into the night.

Lianna Ahlberg is 17 when a thunderstorm snaps a power line to the earth, electrifying the ground, the rain spreading the current like wildfire across the wet grass. Two horses are killed in the nearby field, unnerving the neighbors, upsetting the peculiar boy who has just moved in, and filling Lianna with a deep and abiding sense of dread. This is not the first unusual thing to happen that summer - a summer when Lianna's mother begins to sleepwalk in the smallest hours of morning - and it will not be the last.

Terrible narration....

I'm a fan of Bohjalian, and this short story prequel seems like a good start to a good novel, but it was hard for me to even get through the nearly hour and a half of poor narration. It is unfortunate with audio books how great an impact the narrator can have on the listener's subjective experience of the author's work....a so-so novel can be made great through the narrator's story-telling abilities, but conversely, and excellent author and novel can be made just so-so.

So far, so good!

I loved this prequel, it grabbed my attention, introduced me to some interesting characters and laid the foundation for what, I hope, is a fantastic read! I have purchased the full book, The Sleepwalker, and am starting it when done with this review! Here we go..........💖📚👾

It got me interested in rereading the book

On a rainy evening in rural Vermont, a teenager thinks she has a PREMONITION before lightning kills two horses at a nearby farm. At home, her mother does bizarre things while sleepwalking. Nearby, an odd boy obsesses about medieval times.

This prequel to to Chris Bohjalian's upcoming novel THE SLEEPWALKER piqued my interest with interesting characters and flawless writing.

Slow and repetitive

With 2 minutes remaining I deleted it couldn't finish the short audio it was very slow and not interesting at all. I felt as though it was a waste of time. It was 40 min of treading water but never made it out the gate type of read so unfortunately I will not be moving forward to The Sleepwalker.
