About this listen
In August of 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez shot their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, to death—a cold-blooded act that shocked the nation. Seven years later, the brothers were convicted of murder, and both were sentenced to life in prison without parole. The brothers' first trial started a media frenzy and was filled with lurid details, but these never clearly explained why they killed their parents.
Now, catch a rare glimpse inside the mind of one of the most notorious murderers in American history. In Lyle's own voice, listeners can hear him as he speaks to Norma Novelli, with whom he corresponded for years. Listen as he divulges to Norma many never-before-shared secrets, and then decide for yourself what caused the Menendez brothers to commit their horrifying crime.

They were golden boys who killed with sudden savagery. The trial revealed a dark drama too evil to believe. Handsome, rich, bronzed champion athletes, Erik and Lyle Menendez were the stunning symbols of the California dream. The sons of a high-powered Hollywood executive and his beautiful wife, they lived in a pampered world of Beverly Hills mansions, swimming pools, and private tennis coaches. But the dream became a nightmare when police found the butchered bodies of the boys' parents, Jose and Kitty, in the family room of their five-million dollar mansion.

Of course, it’s rare that children turn out like Lyle and Erik Menendez did. She'd been accused of killing her daughter, Caylee, but the trial only left behind more questions: Was she actually innocent? What really happened to Caylee? Was this what justice really looked like?

The sanatorium in the village of Olalla, west of Seattle, was surrounded by a beautiful forest, sparkling waters and fresh air. The sisters agreed it sounded perfect and exactly the restorative holiday they needed. But within a month of arriving, under the supervision of Doctor Linda Burfield Hazzard, Claire and Dora began to realise the frightening truth – they were not patients but prisoners at the isolated sanitorium.

Story
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Save your money & your sanity
Don't let the sample fool you. Most of the book consists of recorded telephone conversations of an egotistical and self-deluded Lyle Menendez. There's very little analysis of them and they very quickly become tiring and monotonous. The pandering of his female subject is annoyingly sickening.
