About this listen

There was only one way to please her father: Murder his wife....

David Brown was the consummate entrepreneur: a computer wizard and millionaire by age thirty-two. When his beautiful young wife was shot to death as she slept, Brown's fourteen-year-old daughter, Cinnamon, confessed to killing her stepmother. The California courts sentenced her harshly: twenty-four years to life. But in the wake of Cinnamon's murder conviction, thanks in part to two determined lawmen, the twisted private world of David Brown himself unfolded with astonishing clarity—revealing a trail of perverse love, twisted secrets, and evil mind games. A complex and often dangerous investigation suggested a horrifying scenario: Was the seemingly bland David Brown really a stone-cold killer who convinced his own daughter to prove her love by killing for him? A man who turned young women into his own personal slaves, who collected nearly $1 million in insurance money, and married his dead wife's teenage sister, David Brown was a sociopath who would stop at nothing...a deadly charmer who almost got away with everything.

What a story… and as always Ann tells it brilliantly. Narration is also an A+!

One of the very best Ann Rule books.

In the world of real crime and intrigue, Ann Rule’s books are tops! This book certainly doesn’t disappoint as she takes the reader through all of her character’s lives from beginning to end. I won’t say anything that will spoil the story,—just read for yourself!

Could have been a little shorter as I felt some stuff was irrelevant, but otherwise it was a very enjoyable listen!

Great flow!

The best true crime book I've read in a long time! The story is so well written and engrossing, I couldn't stop listening to it! 10/10! Will definitely read more of Rule's work.

Captivating

Clear understanding of motivations and behaviors. How the players developed and grew (or did not) from deeply tragic experiences.

Depth including development of characters.

This is probably the fifth Ann Rule book that I've listened to. Rule was a fine writer. This is the most satisfying of her books for my tastes. This book describes a person who is q sympathetic character in the book Typically there are no sympathetic characters. I read such books to satisfy my curiosity about famous cases. The books about Ingram and Bundy are well written but understandably upsetting to listen to. Other of her books are devoid of sympathetic characters. Not this one. It is an interesting story and I didn't mind lingering there in my imagination.

This is an amazing book

This is one twisted family. It’s so sad to think that people can hurt others so profoundly. Excellently written book and characters. Very well read by the narrator.
