About this listen

Every child prodigy grows up eventually. For the Promise sisters, escaping their mother's narcissism and the notoriety that came with her best-selling book hasn't been easy. Minerva Promise claimed that her three test-tube daughters - gifted pianist Joanie, artistic Meg, and storyteller Avery - were engineered and molded to be geniuses. In adulthood, their modest lives fall far short of her grand ambitions. But now, 20 years after the book's release, she hopes to redeem herself by taking part in a new documentary.

Meg, who hasn't picked up a paintbrush in years, adamantly refuses to participate, until a car accident leaves her with crushing medical bills. While she recuperates in Seattle, the three sisters reluctantly meet with filmmaker Hal Seeger, another former prodigy. Like them, he's familiar with the weight of failed potential. But as he digs deeper, he uncovers secrets they've hidden from each other and a revelation that will challenge their beliefs, even as it spurs them to forge their own extraordinary lives at last.

We all have things that positively affect out judgement of books. I'm partial to books that have musical heroes or heroines, books that involve book reading protagonists and book stores, and books that take place in Seattle. So I'm completely biased in this review.

The story was unique and complex with lots of messy people. Did I mention I love messy people too? Sisterhood is something I did not get to experience but I loved these sisters and the relationship they had. of course, I identified best with the youngest, her being a mermaid and all. I did feel like the beginning was a but slow but once the story for rolling, I was invested. Also a plus was I liked the person who read the audiobook.

Good listen while sewing

The reader was great but the story not so much... definitely felt like it needed more substance.

After my initial download issues between chapter 2/3 I gave it another shot and it was a very good book. The only character I really didn’t like was the youngest sister but hey can’t win them all. Good story.

Very enjoyable

This was a very good constructed story. I even lived the secrets that came out in the end, which explained a lot about the characters.

loved it

I enjoyed the story however I felt that the conclusion of the story story was smushed or smushed or smashed into 2 chapters for the most part.

I enjoyed the story.

I almost didn't get this book because of the horrible reviews it got. I went ahead anyway because there were good reviews as well. I am so so happy I listened to it! I don't understand the negative reviews about the narrator at all! She did excellent! Also, to the person that gave it a horrible review because of the author didn't make Meg the perfect example of what a literal TBI patient would be like, who cares! It isn't a medical documentary! Megs recovery fit the premise of the book perfectly! And there is a great twist at the end as well! please don't pass this book up! it is well worth the time! I promise!

DON'T TRUST THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS

I really enjoyed this story. It had so many facets that I was not surprised by the ending and yet I could not have predicted it either. Heart warming, relaxing break from what the world is today!

So enjoyable and not predictable
