About this listen

Ashton Kirk, youngest daughter of a prestigious senator, fiancee of a hotshot attorney, and fresh Harvard graduate, is headed for a promising law career when scandal breaks apart her family. To escape, she rents an apartment in the sleepy town of Paradise, New Hampshire, where no one knows who she is.

Ashton hopes for solitude, but all bets are off when Eddie West, the town's most eligible bachelor, moves in downstairs. Eddie likes his women and his cars shiny, sleek, and fast, and when he meets his new housemate, he wastes no time getting friendly. While he's looking for a no-strings romance, he gets more than he bargained for in Ash, who sees through his bravado to the pain of a loss too fresh to mention.

Can two people from different worlds find common ground, a place to fall in love and build a future? Is it possible to find your soul mate in the place you least expect?

Love, Love, Love! 5 Star Story- More Please :-)

Scandal has broken out with Ashton's father, a US senator. He has been accused of using drugs and sleeping with an underage prostitute.

Ashton has to deal with that crisis and her family, that is bad enough. However, she finds her boyfriend of three years – the one she planned to married and build a life with – has cheated on her, breaking her trust completely.

Ashton, a recent Harvard Law graduate, cannot handle to scrutiny or the scandal. She decides to cut all ties and move to Paradise, New Hampshire for the summer.

She finds a place to live, with a housemate… With one of the sexiest man she's ever seen. Eddie, the town's most eligible bachelor – he has quite a reputation with the ladies. Ashton finds him a pleasant person and a great housemate.

As Ashton settles into her life of anonymity and less pressure, she tests her boundaries in more ways than she could have imagined.

I enjoyed the story very much. As you can probably guess the next move as you read, it is a great romance with unexpected twists and turns. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys adult, contemporary romance.

While, *I was given a copy of this book to listen to in exchange for my review, this is another instance of happiness as a reviewer. Teri Schnaubelt & Allie Boniface are worth looking into for their work.

Teri Schnaubelt is one of my favorites narrators. She performs each character very well, regardless of age, gender or circumstance. It is always a joy to listen to her. One of the best!

Notes: One tasteful but descriptive scene of intimacy. I cannot recall any strong language and there is no mention of violence. Not a book for the "purist" but a lovely read/listen for those two don't mind a bit of spice.

Stars: I am one who is stingy with my stars, because I had an English teacher who once told me that there is always room for improvement when writing, she would never score an assignment with 100% for that reason. Fortunately, I am not her and I give this book 5 stars in each of the three categories: overall, performance & story!!

Notes: Mature themes and some strong language. It also contains a political hot button topic that would spoil if I listed it.

♥ I read the reviews of others before I purchase a book. If you found my review helpful in your decision about this book, would you please select yes directly below this paragraph? Thank you so much. Please consider "following me" here on Audible.com.

Slow

I received a free audio copy of this book to write a review.

The story of a young lady fresh out of college, running from her family troubles moves to Paradise to escape her problems and try and discover what she wants out of life. It has a decent story line just moves a little too slow for me. It was a quick and easy to listen to but not sure that I would have finished it if I had been reading it.

wonderful from start to finish

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this listen it was a great story from the author to the narrator. Ashton life is about to change when her family’s scandal breaks and her boyfriend dumps her. If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen which is just what Ashton does. She leaves it all behind from her career to her money moves to the small town of Paradise where no one knows her and she starts over. What she finds is she likes the normal quite life along with her hot handsome neighbor. Eddie is a wild child who likes his women hot and his cars even hotter. He isn’t looking for love and isn’t ready when his hot little neighbor moved upstairs. This is a story about secretes filled with drama along with trying to outrun ones past.

I really likes Ashton she was really down to earth with her background you would not have expected that. I guess she is kind of the black sheep of the family always trying to do what is expect of her but truly wanting a different life. She loves her new life but her family wants her back things get interesting when her father comes to visit trying to bring her back home. Next up is her ex which leaves some very trouble times in his path. She must decide who and what she wants and why she wants it. It is time to make a stand and go with ones heart.

I just fell in love with Eddie he has a troubled past that breaks your heart. He is the town’s bad boy trying to outrun a painful past. There is nothing you will not like about him he is a true blue American man that takes your heart with his bad boy ways. My heart really went out to him in so many ways.

Teri Schnaubelt as narrator did an outstanding job with wonderful character voices. She puts feeling and emotion in her audios that reach you down to your toes. Her male voices are as good as her female voices. She gives you a smooth clear listen with no background noise or breaks in the audio. You can hear her passion, pain, sorrow and love in her voice as she takes these characters and gives them life. There wasn’t anything I didn’t enjoy about this audio from her refreshing voice to her rich tones.

I really loved that these characters where friends before they were lovers. You could feel the pull and sparks fly but when it came down to it they were friends first always there for the other. I really liked how Eddie looked out for her. Both knew they were hiding something but gave each other the space they needed. I really wish she would have come clean when Eddie did but it just adds to the story. The author gives you a starting over story and learning who you are while taking one’s life back. She gives you a believable story with wonderful characters you can relate to. This one author who will break your heart as she pulls you in giving you a page turn you can’t put down. This is the first I have read or listen from this author and narrator I am so looking forward to the next one.

Paradise ... a place to start over?

If you could sum up The Promise of Paradise in three words, what would they be?

freedom, beginning anew, reflection

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Promise of Paradise?

One of the most memorable moments in the book was when Ash realized that taking a the road unknown was what she wanted to do. When everything is laid out for you, you aren't taking any chances. Taking chances and making changes is what Ash needed to do.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment when Ash realized that what she wanted was right in front of her. That the life that was 'planned' for her wasn't the life that she wanted. I think that taking that 'leap of faith' was what Ash needed to do.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the pacing of the book. Ms. Schnaubelt's narration gave each character voice without being stereotypical (accents and such). I would love to listen to more books both by the author and read by Ms. Schnaubelt.
