About this listen

The Book of Psalms is a book in both the Hebrew and Christian Bibles consisting of 150 poems originally written to be chanted or sung and accompanied by musical instruments. In fact, the word "psalm" comes from the Greek word "psalmoi", meaning "songs sung to a harp". In content they express virtually the entire range of the Jewish religious experience and faith.

The Psalms are thought to have been written in the first millennium before Christ, perhaps earlier. Although many of the Psalms are attributed to David, doubts persist. Whoever the authors may have been, the collected poems are a powerful testimony to the faith of the Jewish people. They weave a spell of spiritual longing and hope that endures to the present day among people of many faiths.

The Psalms are some of the greatest literature ever written. God is good! And this narrator is the best. It's like having a conversation with a friend. Enjoy!

A true gem of audio production. Griffin supasses Scourby on this one. I really wish Griffin would perform the New Testament someday. As the most read book in history, it would be an enduring audio classic.

A spectacular voice for a timeless work

I am trying to go though the book of Psalms every week and this is a great help. I listen on 1.7x speed and it is perfectly intelligible. The chapter divisions are each a group of 10 Psalms, so it is fairly easy to navigate if you are reading it the way I am. The translation is certainly older but it is excellent English. I will get a lot of use in repeating this.
