In a feat of virtuoso storytelling, Anne Rice unleashes Akasha, the queen of the damned, who has risen from a six-thousand-year sleep to let loose the powers of the night. “Mesmerizing... a wonderful web of dark-side mythology.” (San Francisco Chronicle)

“With The Queen of the Damned, Anne Rice has created universes within universes, traveling back in time as far as ancient, pre-pyramidic Egypt and journeying from the frozen mountain peaks of Nepal to the crowded, sweating streets of southern Florida.” (Los Angeles Times)

Had to return it

I really want to listen to this book, but I only got an hour in, and the narrator's just too distracting. He's putting on a strange fake Dracula Accent, which just(in my opinion) ruins the narration.

v

If you can get past the excessive homoerotic parts, it is an original good book.

The Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice

What can I say that hasn't been said before, of course Anne Rice is a genius...... but she is so much more than anything we readers can come up with. The Queen of the Damned takes you on a mystical carpet ride never to land until you read the words The End. And, believe me, you don't want to come down. You feel safe and can open your eyes to not only to the magistry of this Queen, but to her diabolical plans for a world wide blood bath. I read the book in 2 days as I could not put it down and then I bought the audible, which is unabridged, and is narrated by Simon Vance (my favorite narrator)!!! Again, I finished it in two days!! It is a 20 hour listening adventure. I won't say any more, but that it is the third book in Rice's Vampire Chronicles and it was wonderful! I hope this will tickle your tastebuds to "sink your teeth" into an incredible read!

The amazing Anne Rice as ever

loved this book, but I did expected more from the narrator. I've read other books by him, and for me the wolf's gift narrator is 10/10 while Dimon is a 7.
both are talented, but Anne Rice has a gift with words that make it so beautifull, and i think it could have been brought out more.

All in all, amazing lovely book, good overall narrator and quality, and as ever I have to day, Anne Rice is my favorite author.

Amazing writing style, beautiful story

Any additional comments?

My only complaint would be the way Anne Rice allows the narrative to be so ponderous for such long stretches of text. This quality is what makes her writing so entrancing and romantic of course, but this is a very long story. I found myself wishing she'd just break tempo toward the end and give me some action, some more visceral presence. Still, incredible story, and man, what a writer. Really, really worth the time.

Great read... or listen I should say.

Very good book. Love the narration and how this story brings together so many different characters. Also like the stories of the origins of vampires. I did get a little lost at times but may have been my mind wondering.

Sublime.

This book perfectly takes all of the emotion and philosophy of the first two books, as well as Anne Rice’s amazing ability to discuss the sensual without tawdry sexuality or smut (not that those don’t have their place), and wraps everything up in a beautiful way. There are no cheap tricks or major plots twists to cheapen the experience, and Simon Vance does as brilliant a job reading as ever. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
