About this listen
Burndee is a young and cantankerous fairy godfather who would rather bake cakes than help humans. A disgrace to the fairy order, Burndee has only two wards entrusted to his care…a cinder girl and a charming prince. A royal ball presents Burndee with the brilliant solution of how to make his wards happy with the least amount of effort. He’ll arrange a meeting and hope the two fall in love.
This steampunk rom-com is perfect for fans of Disney, Studio Ghibli, and cake.

Story
Princess Elisianna wasn't gifted at birth. No, she was cursed. While her body may be weak and easy to bruise, what she did have was a strong intelligent mind. But a strong mind isn't easily seen, especially with a nickname like "Fragile Princess." Elise isn't sure she'll ever break her curse, for who could see past her weak frail body to who she truly is? Her curse, after all, can only be broken if someone falls in love with her strength and who would find her strong?

Story
The human kingdom of Escarland and the elven kingdom of Tarenhiel have existed in an uneasy peace after their last wars ended with both kings dead. As tensions rise once again, desperate diplomacy might be the only way to avert war. If only negotiations between elves and humans were that simple. When a diplomatic meeting goes horribly wrong, Essie, a human princess, finds herself married to the elf prince and warrior Laesornysh. Fitting in to the serene, quiet elf culture might be a little difficult for this talkative princess, but she’s determined to make it work.

King Markon of Montalier is at the end of his tether. His son, Prince Parrin, is afflicted with a rather nasty curse that slaughters, maims, or brutally attacks any woman with whom he so much as flirts. After the rumor that sweeps around the kingdom, promising that any woman breaking the "curse" will be eligible to marry the prince, there is no shortage of willing volunteers. Unfortunately, there is also no shortage of bodies piling up.

Story
What is a maiden to do when her prince is not a prince, her hair won’t stop growing, and someone has cursed her to sleep for 300 years? In Polyhymnia’s case, it seems expedient to get up with the help of a kiss or two, trailing her hair behind her, and find out who did it. Nothing quite works out as planned, however, and Poly can’t be sure if that’s because she never seems to be able to remember things like the mysterious spindle that keeps showing up around her, or if it’s the fault of the wizard who woke her but never stops long enough to explain anything.

Cadence and her sister possess the seeds of glory and ruin—or so their father always insisted. Cadence never understood what he meant until Airlie’s seed of power is activated, turning her into the most powerful mage in generations. Despite knowing it must mean her own dormant seed is much more malevolent, Cadence is swept away to the distant Mage’s Guild in her sister’s wake. She’s used to living in Airlie’s shadow, but she can’t see a place for herself in this new world. Nor can she believe in the apparent interest of the charming Zeke. No one has ever chosen her over her beautiful sister.

A wonderful twist on Cinderella
This story was an interesting twist on the classic tale of Cinderella!
The titular godfather is a delightful grump with a certain gravelly grumble to him that was brought to life wonderfully by the narrator, Alexander Keys.

A Truly Enjoyable Take on Cinderella
Not all fairy godparents are female or happy or old or good-natured. Burndee is none of those! Burndee is the complete opposite and is only happy when he can bake cakes. Burndee is a Fairy Godfather only to a cinder girl and a charming prince. So he masterfully devises a plan to rid himself of them and move forward with baking! Too bad no one told his two charges!
Allison Tebo, the author, offers a refreshing perspective on the story of Cinderella and Prince Charming. Crafted in a steampunk, rom-com narrative, it is a delightful, captivating, and highly enjoyable experience! Tebo leads the listener to easily fall into the conventional storyline only to jolt them back to this new version. The character development is concise and complete. The dialogue is detailed and authentic, matching the personalities of each character vividly. The plot twists are engaging and delightful.
The narrator, Alexander Keyes, is perfect for this story! His cadence and pauses are deliberate and well done. He slips into each character and brings the story to life. His portrayal of the godfather is wonderful as he truly captures his essence beautifully and completely. He kept the story moving forward with his energy and delivery.
While Tebo delivered a fresh take on the Cinderella story, Keyes brought it to life. This is an audiobook I will continue to enjoy time and again!

This book is really… neat. :)
What’s this “As you wish” or “I love you, I know” business? All I want to hear is “I think you’re really neat.” 🥹
I don’t think Allison could write anything that I didn’t consume me heart and soul. This book was absolutely DARLING and had me giggling and groaning and squealing all the way through it. The ending had me melting.
I didn’t vibe with the narrator at first because every word out of Burndee’s mouth sounded like he was stifling untold rage, but honestly it actually suited his character perfectly. 😂
