About this listen

Dan Molles' stunning Remaining saga continues in the first novella in the series set in a world ravaged by a bacterium that has turned 90 percent of the population into ravenous animals.

The world is slipping into chaos. A mysterious plague has come stateside, and Clyde Bealey suddenly finds himself with nothing but a suitcase full of worthless things and a desperate sense that he must prove himself to his pregnant wife. As he tries to lead his family to safety through a world filled with madmen, he will learn that the cost of his pride might be more than he can bear.

The evolution of a man

This is a great peak behind the curtain of the series. We are mainly the product of our experiences and personal make up, and the author seems to understand that in a visceral way. Good story. Too short for a credit, but buy it…especially if you are a fan of the series.

poor clyde

i didn't think I could feel any sadness for some one like Clyde. if you listen to the main books in this series you understand why that is. however at a certain point in this little novel. i almost cried. once you get to it. you will understand why. it's never about what someone does. it's why they did it. what lead them to something. i always remember that. this book is a perfect example of the philosophy.

great back story

not a necessary story for the series but I think adds a lot to the understanding of the universe of The Remaining. Very tragic.

Not the best, but shows a glimpse of the fall.

If you could sum up The Remaining: Faith in three words, what would they be?

Everyone lost something.

Would you be willing to try another book from D.J. Molles? Why or why not?

Absolutely. I've liked every book in this series, and I hear he has a new book coming out in August. I'll be giving it a listen when it's available.

Which character – as performed by Christian Rummel – was your favorite?

Clyde, I guess?

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The scene at the school in Sanford.

Any additional comments?

I don't think this novella was as strong as "Trust", but it at least offers a great view of things when they started crumbling. It also offers some character back story for one of "The Followers of the Rapture".

explains the origin & the reason for Clyde Bealey

The Remaining: A Faith is a novella that explains the origin and the reason for Clyde Bealey in the remaining books of the series. In the beginning before the mysterious disease spread across the U.S. and most likely the world, Clyde was a white-collar worker and lived a full white-collar world – a soft life according to his in-laws. His wife came from the more grounded life of blue-collar workers and hunters. Clyde knew he would never measure up to his wife’s family.

Throw in a mad dash to a FEMA camp and Clyde packs his most valued items – pictures, licenses, birth-certificates, CD’s, money, etc. and no food or clothes. His wife is about to give birth anytime and Clyde struggles with the realization that his in-laws would not only laugh at him but that they would be better prepared for this emergency.

D.J. Molles is not gentle with his characters and shows how brutal they and life can be to them. Clyde must decide where to go, what to do and who he really is now that the world is gone. Clyde must find his way among the Followers now.

Short but action packed. I find that I actually enjoy these novellas that are strategically placed within the series as they offer an insight that one might miss if they were not separated. Molles flushes out what most of us would do during such an emergency and shatters our thoughts, almost teaching what a survivor should do in the case of any emergency. What we should focus on.

The narrator, Christian Rummel continues to be excellent. The way he reads slightly faster as the action comes to head makes my already pumping heart beat slightly faster anticipating the outcome.

The production had no issues.

Audiobook was provided for review the narrator.

Great gap filler

Faith is the second of the two novellas between books 4 and 5 of the Remaining series. In this novella we get acquainted with The Followers, the radical religious group laying waste to the remaining survivors who won't join their cause.

The story is set in the initial days after the outbreak and revolves around Clyde and his family as they try to reach a safe zone. After a series of events Clyde eventually joins The Followers.

This book, as with the first novella, fills in details of the back story which further immerses the reader in the larger series.
