About this listen

Learn to see God's remarkable works in the everyday ordinary of your life.

Your remarkable life is happening right here, right now. You may not be able to see it - your life may seem predictable and your work insignificant until you look at your life as Frederick Buechner does.

Named "the father of today's spiritual memoir movement" by Christianity Today, Frederick Buechner reveals how to stop, look, and listen to your life. He reflects on how both art and faith teach us how to pay attention to the remarkableness right in front of us, to watch for the greatness in the ordinary, and to use our imaginations to see the greatness in others and love them well.

Pay attention, says Buechner. Listen to the call of a bird or the rush of the wind, to the people who flow in and out of your life. The ordinary points you to the extraordinary God who created and loves all of creation, including you. Pay attention to these things as if your life depends upon it. Because, of course, it does.

As you learn to pay attention to your life and what God is doing in it, you will uncover the plot of your life's story and the sacred opportunity to connect with the divine in each moment.

Second or third time

Beecher speaks to me each time I read or read again his writing. This time was no exception.

Gone, But Living On

I first heard of Frederick Buechner when a Minister of a Protestant Denomination quoted him in a eulogy at a friend’s funeral. I contacted the parsonage and the kind Minister gave me the source, & my quest led me to a
treasure of writings of this gifted man.
After his recent death in his 90’s I am thrilled to find him “alive again” on Audible, & the narrator’s voice is what I imagine his voice sounded like.

Healing and Helpful

Buechner is a real man, full of failings yet Loved by God. a refreshing follower of Jesus when religion pumps out bravado and pomp.

Pleasantly suprised

I have been a "Christian" for a while and I had never heard for Fredrick Buechner. A friend of mine share a very powerful quote attributed to Buechner one time and I knew I had to look into this man. Fredrick was a very gifted writer and shares a unique gift of sharing matters of faith at a depth that rocks the soul, yet gently. I recommend all his books. This is the first one I read and I downloaded the audio as a way to re-consume his unique insights. Thank you ..

A helpful inspiring book

A lovely book, full of revelation, good narration. Frederick Buechner is one of the most profund writer, who seeks more than miracles, he sees miracles in silence and în ordinary thing. I really recommend it!

Great insights, great writing

I’ve heard a lot about Buechner’s prose, and his style is great. Mainly though, I loved his thoughts on the sacred nature of the ordinary, and the idea that the lives of people can and should have great meaning.

Not the best or worst

I may have had too high hopes based on previous books and recommendations but felt that every thing that was of substance was discussed in chapter 1 and quotes from others. Simply other books written by this author are a better use of your time.
