Publisher's summary

A wickedly comic feminist mystery about the dark side of a hopeless romantic's seemingly perfect love story. A must-read for fans of The Cheerleaders!

"Whip-smart… A thrilling romp from start to finish."—Jessica Goodman
New York Times bestselling author of They Wish They Were Us

Alyson is a romantic, and sometimes it gets her into trouble. Like last summer, she thought her co-worker was into her, when in reality he found her flirting pathetic.

Then she meets Brenton Riggs Jr., and right away she knows that their connection isn’t just in her head. When he swoops in to save her one night from a less than savory party encounter, she falls head-over-heels. Finally, someone Alyson likes who likes her back!

But when she finds out about the King’s Cup—a competition the guys at their boarding school started to see who has the most sexual prowess—she’s put on edge. Does Brenton really want to be with her, or is he just trying to win? Then Alyson and the other girls at the school start a competition of their own: The Queen’s Cup. It’s all about reclaiming their power. But as the competition heats up, Alyson’s relationship begins to fall apart—and it isn’t long before the cracks in her perfect love story start to show through.

Problematic, but good for one listen.

Well written and well narrated, however I don't think I'll listen again. The storyline is problematic in ways I didn't expect. I definitely prefer the Paper girl of Paris type of story over this.

Well written but unsatisfying

2.5 STARS

When Alyson’s all girl boarding school merges with the nearby all boy school, she learns about a contest the boys play where they receive points for sexual activity. In response orchestrates the Queens Cup, where girls set out to humiliate the boys with public rejection. Believing her boyfriend Riggs is one of the good guys, she hides her participation in the club.

I’m not a big fan of revenge or that the ends justify the means. I’m more of a two wrongs don’t make a right school of decorum. Humiliation isn’t okay, even for bad guys. I normally wouldn’t have chose a book called THE REVENGE GAME but for Jordyn Taylor being the writer and the setting being a boarding school.

Taylor’s writing and word building are the strongest part of THE REVENGE GAME. I didn’t care for Alyson because she expected others to do the heavy lifting for the Queens Cup to look innocent to her boyfriend and because she spearheaded the Cup. I loved the way Taylor set up the novel, interweaving past and present with news reports.

The ending disappointed me with the adult who was involved and the new couple at the end that came out of left field. The audible narration was very good.
