Publisher's summary

They are called the Greatest Generation, but they were also ordinary men, responding to the call of duty. These are their unforgettable stories—first-person accounts from the last of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who fought the most dreadful war in history, all collected by a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The idea was simple: travel across the country with a 1945 M1 Garand, the basic U.S. fighting rifle of World War II, ask combat veterans of that war to sign it, and listen carefully as the rifle evoke a flood of memories and emotions. Andrew Biggio once again reveals the astonishing effect his M1 Garand had on the old warriors who held it. In Biggio's riveting account, you will learn:

- What it was like to fight for freedom in the various theaters of World War II

- The obstacles these world-conquerors faced on returning home and how they overcame them

- The special meaning these recollections hold for later combat vets, confirming the brotherhood of warriors

- The importance to veterans of memory and respect

Biggio's inspirational second collection is a must-listen for anyone interested in the service and sacrifices of our veterans.

Outstanding

Just as good as Part 1. A job well done capturing the veterans of the Greatest Generation. A must read for history buffs and people who take a liking of the Second World War.

As good as it gets.

I can't believe book 2 is as good as the first book. I hated to see it end as I finished it. The stories needed told and Andrew Biggio did a wonderful job letting those who lived it, tell them. His work is as good as it gets. Read this. Reread it. Pass it on.

A Necessary read for all Americans

Andrews' project (R1&R2) has and will become a required written history of our United States during a world war.
The time and effort that he put into relating the stories of this WW II generation will forever ring for all generations of Americans. These factually, self told stories, produce the stark and human reality of war for all mankind.
If only we would learn from past history ...

Best Coverage of America’s Greatest Generation

Incredible work Andy has done paying tribute to those who have gone before us. The best collection of 1st hand accounts of WWII, hands down look no further.

Incredible

Every American should read this book. It’s raw and gritty and doesn’t hold back what these men went through fighting for our country. I cried through each moving story. Thank you all for your service.

A fitting end

Having gone to both book signings at the collings foundation museum and interacting with Andy in person and through social media i cant help being proud to be an American. What he has done for our greatest generation brings a tear to my eye every time i read both editions of the book. I only wish more Americans would read it to understand what makes this country great

Powerful stories incredible

The Intensity and emotions of these stories in this book 2 are cranked up even more so compared to the beloved first book. Some of the information the details I knew nothing about like the story of Lieutenant Ronald Speirs of the 506th very much had me captivated, Of course many know of Lt. Speirs but those details provided by the witness was some powerful stuff.

That's just one example. Every story held me captive the way in which the author interviews the veterans and then the way he presents this to his readers is special, The author asks the questions I would ask. He wants to know the things I want to know. It's incredible Thank you, let's have book three, please. I know you have more stories, let's hope.

and most of all thank you to all the Veterans of that Greatest Generation.
