About this listen

On a cool night in the Utah desert, a young woman flees her home, her sleeping child clutched in her arms. Hours later, she is found dead, her tongue torn out and her daughter mysteriously returned to her own bed.

The residents of Blister Creek are anxious to solve this shockingly brutal crime, but theirs is a unique community—a conservative polygamous sect that cannot afford for news of the murder to reach the outside world. So, they call upon one of their own: Jacob Christianson, son of a respected church official and cousin of the victim.

With the help of his teenage sister, Eliza, Jacob digs into the bizarre murder and uncovers a monstrous, blood-soaked secret that could destroy the very foundation of their church.

Chilling and engrossing, The Righteous is a tightly plotted novel, the first in a series about love, loyalty, and dark secrets.

Murder in a polygamist sect

A woman running through the night carrying a small child. The next day the woman is found dead and the child is found sleeping in her own bed. For the polygamist sect in Blister Creek Utah, having the authorities poking around would be a very bad thing. They turn to another related sect from Alberta, Canada, to investigate the murder. Jacob Christianson, a medical student, and his sister Eliza are sent to investigate. As they dig deeper, they uncover more than just murder. The tension builds and finally comes to a crashing climax.

Very Original and Captivating

This is probably one of those where you either love it or hate it, likely due to what some may perceive as controversial subject matter in conjunction with the graphic nature associated with some of the violence portrayed. Personally, I found it extremely captivating and well written with a very original plot/storyline. I had no idea what to expect but I give this 5 stars for the originality/creativity that went into the writing of this mind-bending story, one that will certainly leave you thinking at its conclusion.

Intensely sinister! Thought-provoking

The pacing, inflections and tone of narrator was perfect. New bloodlines for a community usually means convincing outsiders, primarily males, to enter into relationship with the regulars. This is a perfected opposite. Scary because it could truly happen. Murder covering up kidnappings! Wow, just wow...

Waste of a Credit.

This book sounded much more interesting than it was. Most explained the Mormon polygomy and religous beliefs of this particular group. The FBI men in the story came across as dullards allowing the highest church leaders advising them what the FBI should do. The investigator of the murder was a religious "priest"...the story made little sense. The dialaog was boring with all the discussion of the religious beliefs between the people IN the religion. Those discussing it should already have known this information.
I barely could finish the book.
It was a good premise for a story but I don't feel it was executed properly.

Weird

This is one of the most bizarre books I have ever read or listened to. I would avoid it at all costs.
