This book held my attention well but I expected more of a spiritual uplift from an inspirational publisher.

Exciting but spiritually anemic

I loved the Pawn so much and this was a suitable sequel but not as good. There weren't any major gripe another than that way the narrator pronounced "rook" for every character. It drove me crazy. I love his narration aside from that one complaint. I'm excited to go through the rest of the series.

Good, not as Good as The Pawn

Another good Patrick Bower thriller. I wish the narrator would get another voice for Tessa. She sounds stilted and like a whiny brat.

Gripping

If you love James Patterson's crime novels but not the body details, graphic sex or foul language, you'll love this series.

Alex Cross w\o all the sex & language.

I wasn't overly thrilled with the male narrator's attempt at female voices.. Everything else was great

I really enjoyed this book, just as much as the first. It drew me in right away. The narrator did a fine job, but I have to agree that his female voices aren't that great. But that didn't take away from the story! I recommend this series to anyone looking for a top-notch cop thriller!

Another Intense Thriller!

Stephen James James's first book in the series The Pawn was pretty good but it was as if he went out of his way to prove that he could be as gory and macob as the likes of Stephen King. I actually found myself fast-forwarding through parts of that book to get past the unnecessary Gore and back to the point. but this book was much better written, suspenseful, and a good mystery.

excellent book

An Awesome Series

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I found this book to be an okay mystery, but the reader was poor, especially on the women's voices. He made the teenage daughters voice so whiney all the time-it really got old.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It was a little to graphic for me especially since it is listed a Christian fiction.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Yes, not enough range of voice in his characters-lots of times too flat.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No way too much violence for the screen.
