About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Marie Lu comes the second book in the exhilarating Young Elites series.

Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, and she destroyed them all.

Adelina Amouteru’s heart has suffered at the hands of both family and friends, turning her down the bitter path of revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she and her sister flee Kenettra to find other Young Elites in the hopes of building her own army of allies. Her goal: To strike down the Inquisition Axis, the white-cloaked soldiers who nearly killed her.

But Adelina is no heroine. Her powers, fed only by fear and hate, have started to grow beyond her control. She does not trust her newfound Elite friends. Teren Santoro, leader of the Inquisition, wants her dead. And her former friends, Raffaele and the Dagger Society, want to stop her thirst for vengeance. Adelina struggles to cling to the good within her. But how can someone be good, when her very existence depends on darkness?

Best-selling author and New York Times proclaimed "hit factory" Marie Lu delivers another heart-pounding adventure in this exhilarating sequel to The Young Elites.

Critic reviews

"A tightly woven tapestry of a story that ensnares even as it disturbs." (Booklist, starred review)

"Lu constructs a fascinating triangle of opposing forces seeking power, and the ensuing twists and epic battles leave many dead, broken, or forever changed." (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

"Original and sobering, Adelina is an antihero of nigh-unremitting darkness: an unusual young woman in the mold of such archetypes as Lucifer, Macbeth, and Darth Vader." (Kirkus Reviews)

Great book, bad audio

Didn't like how the main character was read very much, it took away from the story.

Chilling

This book was really intense. Caused a lot of thought and inflection. Normally your main character is your story’s hero, however, it is not so simple in this book. Very well written and performed masterfully.

Dark and lovely.

A dark heroine who has risen from the ashes of her former self develops never before seen powers. She vows revenge on her wrongdoers.

Haunting

Wow. I'm not even sure how to feel about this book. Talk about an anti-hero (or maybe just villain). It was beautiful and horrible and fantastic.

Great!

I loved the progression into darkness for the characters in this book, I can't give it full stars unfortunately because for some reason it's just not hitting the way it did when I first read it.
The male voice actor kills it but the female fell short for me.

Meh

Any additional comments?

Really liked the first book but the story gets pretty boring in this second one... The main character is really annoying

I love this world but not the main character

I struggled to get through this book because the main character never matured and was self centered. Same as book one but the other characters made it interesting.

Such a compelling and interesting story

This is how you write a villain. I won’t spoil too much, but the absolute fear that you feel for and around Adelina is perfect. I understand where she is coming from, but also wish she could see what others are doing for her. 10/10 recommend listening to this story

Story is good, I just do not enjoy the narrator!

Narrator is overacting, and it really made it hard to finish listening! Not sure I'll bother with the final installment.
