About this listen

Shortlisted for the 2014 Indie Awards

The downloadable, audiobook edition of Graeme Simsion’s prize-winning romantic comedy The Rosie Project, read by the actor Dan O’Grady.

Meet Don. Don is a genetics professor who just might be somewhere on the autistic spectrum. He looks a little like Gregory Peck and is getting married. He just doesn’t know who to yet. But he has designed a very detailed questionnaire to help him find the perfect woman. And it’s definitely not Rosie. Absolutely, completely, definitely not .Rosie, meanwhile, isn’t looking for love; she’s looking for her biological father. Sometimes, though, you don’t find love: love finds you...

Nice book and story, the evolution of the main character was entertaining and the ending, romcom formulaic but nicely done.

Enjoyable RomCom

What made the experience of listening to The Rosie Project the most enjoyable?

Storyline, characters, narrator...the whole package.

What did you like best about this story?

The humour - laugh out loud moments. Very Australian humour though, so be warned if you are not an Aussie as it may be a bit parochial.

What does Dan O'Grady bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice is perfect for the character Don. I wish I could find more books narrated by him.

If you could take any character from The Rosie Project out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Don. He's an absolute gem...read it and see why!

Any additional comments?

This book was chosen for our bookclub and I was dubious about it when I read the blurb...but it is right up there in my top book selection.

Fabulous book...don't hesitate, just buy it.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Rosie Project to be better than the print version?

I think both are excellent. The story is strong in itself, but also really well read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character Don. The fact that he takes everything literally and that he observes the behaviour of people around him so accurately makes him a great character. It didn't only make me laugh out loud several times, but it also made me realise how strange certain phrases and some conventions actually are.

What about Dan O'Grady’s performance did you like?

He just was Don, no doubt about it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh out loud several times. I was also very touched by the difficulty Don sometimes has to cope with.

Any additional comments?

An excellent novel which will make you smile, laugh out loud and make you understand Asperger's (and autism in general) a bit better.

Disarming novel

Would you listen to The Rosie Project again? Why?

I might. The story is pretty predictable. The ending however suprised me. Which is why I would maybe listen to it again. It was money well spent.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Rosie Project?

The trip when Rosie and Don go to New York. I want to go on that exact trip.

Which character – as performed by Dan O'Grady – was your favorite?

Everybody usually keeps on saying that their favourite character is the main character, however I loved Claudia and Julie.

If you could take any character from The Rosie Project out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Gene: he needs to learn some manners.

Any additional comments?

You'll love it!

Perfect for a day under the duvet.

What a powerful insight into how some people think. Absolutely loved this.

He really makes you feel like you're listening to the main character himself. Well read.

I loved the Rosie Project. I laughed and I cried. A story that will touch your heart on so many levels and for so many different reasons

An aussie gem

A really delightful story where the marginalised triumph. Listen for pure pleasure as the rule bound hero makes his way toward a fully rounded life, detecting a suitable partner in a scientific fashion while dodging the bullets of academic political machinations so familiar to anybody connected to a university. I cant wait for the film. Especially for the golf club dinner episode.

Nerds Rule

Story was great. Narrator was excellent. Loved the sustained first-person perspective of the protagonist. Enjoyed every bit of it.

Fun read

I started listening to this and thought oh no, here we go, Curious Incident... revisited. But it grabbed me. I rapidly found myself brightening up at the thought of my next opportunity to rejoin Don and Rosie. Wondered what they were up to while my back was turned. It is a light romance superbly done, and the themes explored apply to us all. This book could have so easily have been a clod-hopper, but it was a very elegant dip into what makes for solid relationships and the myriad things that can trip us up. I had a smile on my face pretty much from go to whoa.

Aspergers Cliche? No, I loved it!
