About this listen
I was a rising star in the Seventh-day Adventist world—until I wasn’t. As a first-generation Adventist, no one expected much from me. But when I walked away from multiple degrees to serve as a volunteer missionary, I became something of an anomaly. While others raised funds for their missions, I refused to take money to do the Lord’s work. I poured everything I had into serving, traveling and living in Ukraine, Egypt, and the Washington Coast. Questioning Adventism never crossed my mind—we weren’t supposed to.
Then one day, everything unraveled. A fringe offshoot of the church opened my eyes to the deep legalism woven into Adventist doctrine. I stepped away for a time, only to return with renewed dedication, training with Adventist Frontier Missions. And that’s when the final break came. I committed the ultimate sin: I questioned Ellen G. White. The church that had once embraced me turned on me, accusing me of causing "deep chaos." Adventism spit me out.
This is the true story of ten years of missionary service—and my spectacular fall from grace. It is also an inside look into life in the Seventh-day Adventist church. I sincerely hope that you get a lot of out of this book!
Think of this as the Seventh-day Adventist version of "Under the Banner of Heaven." This book explores everything from Seventh-day Adventist offshoots, Ellen G. White's status as the infallible Spirit of Prophecy, and what it is like to serve with Adventist Frontier Missions.
