About this listen

Vigàta is bustling as the new filming location for a Swedish television series set in 1950. In the production frenzy, the director asks the locals to track down movies and vintage photos to faithfully recreate the air of Vigàta in that time. Engineer Ernesto Sabatello, while rummaging in the attic of his house, finds some films shot by his father from 1958 to 1963 - always on the same day, March 27; and always the same shot, the outside wall of a country house.

Montalbano hears the story and, intrigued by the mystery of it, begins to investigate its meaning. Meanwhile, a middle school is threatened by a group of armed men - but a closer look at the situation finds Montalbano looking into the students themselves, and finally delving into the world of social media.

I’ll miss Andrea Camilleri

The Safety Net (Inspector Montalbano Mysteries Book 25) will be the last of the Inspector Montalbano books as author Andrea Camilleri passed away in 2019. What a great legacy he left behind in this series. He and the inspector will both be greatly missed. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

Another wonderful puzzler!

Sicily, law-enforcement, angst, mystery, investigation, relationships

Another man's puzzle, the madness of a TV crew on a prolonged shoot in Vigata, problems with his second in command, problems in a local school, problems with his long time girlfriend are more than enough for Commissario Montalbano even as local crime seems to be on holiday. It's a wonderfully convoluted novel written several years before the author's death but only translated into English in 2020. I loved it!
In case you didn't know, the great truth about the Montalbano mysteries is that if it seems obvious, it isn't the truth.
Steven Sartorelli is the deviously clever translator, and Grover Gardner is the narrator extraordinaire.

Civilized Italy

I have greatly enjoyed the Inspector Montalbano series, and I think I only have two more to read. I admire the author, Andrea Camilleri, immensely. He wrote into his nineties, I believe, and these novels never lose their humanity and humor. Highly recommended.

The Usual Comedy of Errors

The Usual Comedy of Errors

Camilleri's stories are more about the characters than solving a mystery and this story is no exception.

Grover Gardner does a fine job of narrating, as always.
