About this listen

A mysterious man with no past, a troubled young woman running from hers...and a powerful love that may heal them both.

Scout Vanderhorn has lost her mother, her home, and all hope of security. In a desperate bid to escape her abusive stepfather, she travels to a seaside mansion on Cape Cod in search of the real father she never knew - and finds a secret sister who welcomes her into the family, troubles and all. But it's not long before trouble comes looking for Scout.

Unaware of his past, or even his own name, Jack Remington is lost. He spends his days scavenging for survival and compulsively searching the seas in his battered old kayak. At night, alone in his beach cave, he's haunted by nightmares. But from the moment he glimpses Scout, a powerful connection is forged that begins to bring him back from the brink.

Neither expects to fall for the other, but Scout and Jack can't deny their explosive mutual attraction. Can this love remake a broken man and save a woman with nothing to lose...before the past drowns them in the oncoming storm?

Set on beautiful Cape Cod, The Seadog is a story of trauma and redemption, of mysteries and revelations - and above all, the incredible power of love.

Very sweet

This is the third book in The Paines Creek series. But it stood very well as a standalone novel. You don't need to have read the others to enjoy this book. A wonderful romance/drama with a good amount of suspense thrown in. Very sweet. Well written, the books several plot lines flowed smoothly. And the characters were a delight. I will definitely be picking up the other books in the series now. Awesome narrator. This was a joy to listen to. I would definitely recommend it.

What a Heartwarming Love Story!

This is my first book from this series and I throughly enjoyed it. The author did an amazing job with the characters and descriptions. One of the most engaging and suspenseful love stories that I have read in awhile.

Scout has fled her former home after the death of her mother because her mom's boyfriend has become violent and obsessed accusing Scout from hiding money from him.

Scout shows up in a mansion on Cape Cod where her father was supposed to be living to look for help starting a new life away from Monti, her mom's long time drunk boyfriend. She finds out that he died a year earlier but discovers a sister she never knew she had.

Her new family takes her in and let her stay on their cottage. While staying there she meets a mysterious man that doesn't remember his past. He gets beat up by some teenagers and Scout finds him unconscious on the beach and finds out he has been living in a cave for awhile. She nurses him to health. Her compassion is so touching.

There is quite a bit of suspense with the mysterious man and Monti who won't leave Scout alone. It is a heartwarming story.

The narrator did an awesome job with the characters.

The Seadog is a Winner!

This is a really, really good audiobook! Aaron Paul Lazar is a very gifted writer, with so much talent! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would recommend it to others. The characters are vibrant and unique. I loved the way the story made me think about the ordinary people that I see around me in a different light. The narrator is fantastic too. This audiobook is so much more than a simple romance. It inspires emotions from the listener and is truly a gem!

Love & a second chance

I received a free audio version of this book to write a review.

This is the story of love and second chance for all the characters in this book. Scout runs from her abusive step father to find she has a sister and family. Jack is the victim of a ship wreck that loses his memory. This is the story of them finding each of other and helping one another through the pain.

A beautiful love story!

What a pleasure it was to listen to this story! I was totally engrossed and did not want to stop listening. This is the third book in the Paines Creek Beach Book series. I was a little apprehensive diving into this book without having read either of the first two however that did not matter a bit. This book stands on its own completely. The characters are all very likable and now that I feel that I know them personally I will be very interested in picking up books 1 and 2. The Seadog: A Love Story has just the right combination of romance and suspense with multiple plot lines. Although I never doubted a happy ending, I couldn't wait to see how all of the loose ends wrapped up.

I listened to the Audible version of this book, which I received in exchange for an honest review. I thought the narrator did a good job with all of the voices except for Scout, the main female character. She gave her a bad accent which sounded like a kid at times and was hard to listen to. Scout’s voice definitely did not fit the picture of the beautiful woman on the cover of the book.

All in all a wonderful story which I would highly recommend!

Exciting Romantic Suspense Set on Cape Cod

Any additional comments?

The Seadog is an exciting romantic suspense novel set primarily on Cape Cod. It has everything I enjoy in a great story: action, suspense, and a love story without too many graphic details.

The story begins when Scout escapes her abusive and alcoholic stepfather after her mother dies from cancer. She travels to a seaside mansion on Cape Cod in search of her real father. Unfortunately her father is also dead; instead she finds a sister who welcomes her into the family, gives her a job, and let's her live in the guesthouse. Soon after, Scout comes across Jack on the beach - an obviously disoriented man who's been living in a cave (Jack was in a shipwreck severs months ago and doesn't remember his name). After teen thugs beat up Jack and leave him for dead, Scout finds him on the beach and nurses him back to health. While I'm not usually into "love at first sight" stories, Jack and Scout definitely have an instant connection that transcends mere attraction. It's as if their souls are connected and it's so believably written.

I listened to the Audible version of this book narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor, which was given to me free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review. The narration flows naturally at an even pace and different voices are used for all characters.

I definitely recommend this series to those who enjoy well written romantic suspense novels. Although it is the third book in the Paines Creek Beach series written by Aaron Paul Lazar, the stories are truly stand alone and you don't miss out an anything by not reading the previous two books in the series.

The Seadog: Paines Creek Beach, Book 3

"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast."

This book is the third in the series. It was nice to re-visit characters from previous book. There is mystery as well as romance and of course a few not so nice people thrown in for good measure. I liked the setting and the characters, oh and secrets to keep you guessing.

The narration was well done. The characters were excellently portrayed, only exception the 7 year old boy sounded more like a toddler. Still a good performance.

A Beautiful Love Story

This is the third book in the Paines Creek Beach series. I really enjoyed it.

I downloaded this book in audiobook format as I have listened to this author's work in this way before and really enjoyed it. This audio book is narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor, who has narrated other books by this author. She has a pleasant voice to listen to, though she has a drawl that I struggled to like, and I enjoyed her narration of this story much better than the Bittersweet Hollow series.

Scout Vanderhorn is a wonderful character. I really liked her. After her mother dies, she decides to leave her drunk and abusive step-father and seek out her biological father. But when she arrives at The Seacrest, she receives some bad news; her father had passed away during a massive hurricane from a heart attack. Not sure what to do, she finds herself welcomed into the house by her half-sister, Libby, and her husband, Finn. Not long after, she comes across a stranger scavenging on the beach. Drawn to him, she finds herself wanting to get to know him better.

Jack Remington is lost. He has no memory of who he is, only that he must keep hidden. I really liked getting to know this character better and watching him come out of his shell. After seeing a beautiful woman wandering on the beach he has come to call home, he becomes intrigued with her and finds himself drawn to her sadness. As he gets to know her, his attraction turns to love.

This story is told through the eyes of both Scout and Jack in alternative chapters, though Scout's step-father also has his say. I enjoyed this, as it gave me (as a reader/listener) a chance to see what they were thinking and feeling. I enjoyed this story a lot more than The Seacroft, as I loved the romance between Scout and Jack. It didn't have the sappiness/cheesiness that appeared in The Seacroft and felt more believable. The author also injected an element of suspense/danger into the tale by bringing in Scout's step-father and his determination to track his step-daughter down. I won't say much else otherwise I'll end up giving out spoilers. However, I will say that there are several twists I didn't see coming, including Jack's real identity. I found myself in tears as he discovered who he was. It was incredibly touching.

The story ended satisfactorily, without a cliffhanger. It can be read as a stand-alone, though I would recommend you read/listen to the series in order. I am now looking forward to reading/listening to more Paines Creek Beach books (if there are any more) as soon as possible.

Aaron Paul Lazar has written an intriguing tale that captured my imagination. I love his writing style, which is fast paced and entertaining. I also love the flow. I am now looking forward to reading more of his books in the future.

Although this book doesn't have any bad language, there are some slightly explicit scenes of a sexual nature. Therefore, I recommend this book to older teen readers and to adults who love contemporary romance or romantic suspense genres. - Lynn Worton

Loved the Plot Twist

There were several stories inside this story but they did not take away from the real story. The villian was a typical bully who did not want to work for a living. There was a lot of intrigue and several characters who probly needed a lot of discipline from their parents. I liked the way all of the subplots came together to create an ending that made sense and was not typical. It is part romance, part psychological thriller, part humor, part human nature triumping over adversity.
