Publisher's summary
Paris, 1942. As she twirls in the arms of handsome dancer Santiago Lozano, surrounded by aristocrats and high-ranking German officials, Elena Garcia looks like every other beautiful young woman at the glamorous party. But she is hiding a dangerous secret: She is a spy.
Undercover in occupied Europe, risking her life daily, Elena never planned to fall in love. But everything changes when she meets Santiago in a crowded bar. His warm, dark eyes and kind smile draw her in...but he can never know her real identity, and opening her heart to him could put both of them in jeopardy. Elena cannot help but fall for Santiago, but can she truly trust him?
Then Elena is tasked with a dangerous assignment: delivering coded maps for the Resistance. As she leaves the meeting, she hears heavy footsteps closing in behind her, and her heart begins to pound. Fighting off her attacker, she races back to the station, barely making it onto the train. She is forced to confront the worst: Her cover is blown, and now nowhere will be safe.
To stay alive, Elena must flee the city, leaving the man she’s grown to love behind. But she desperately wants to finish her mission, and she will not leave Santiago to face the wrath of the Gestapo alone.
Torn between her heart and her head, Elena must ask herself: Should she risk everything to save her love...or was he the one who betrayed her to the enemy?
An epic, gripping, and emotional wartime novel based on the true stories of the female secret agents sent into occupied Europe. Fans of The Alice Network, Soraya M. Lane, and Pam Jenoff will be totally hooked.

Story
In enemy-occupied Paris, as the locals go to bed starving and defeated by the war, music and laughter spills through the door of a little restaurant, crowded with German soldiers. The owner, Marianne, moves on weary feet between its packed tables, carrying plates of steaming, wholesome food for the enemy officers. Her smile is bright and sparkling, her welcome cordial. Nobody would guess the hatred she hides in her heart. That night, the restaurant closes its doors for the final time.

It was a misty Wednesday morning. Inside the Gestapo headquarters, you could cut the tension with a knife. There was a traitor in their midst: Someone had leaked a list of the SS to the British press. The head of the Gestapo called me into his office. Panelled oak walls, a grand piano in the corner, rugs lining the floor—the place where he ordered executions every day.

When Aline Griffith was born in Pearl River, New York, in 1923, one might have guessed from her exceptional beauty that a career as an actress or model might be in her future. Few would have imagined that twenty-one years later, she would find herself in Spain as a deep-cover OSS agent, infiltrating the highest levels of Spanish society, or that five years later still, she would marry a Spanish grandee and become one of the most watched, most admired, most fascinating women of international society. This is the story of Aline, Countess of Romanones, a story of courage, beauty and success that is far more exciting than any fictionalized thriller.

Once a city of enormous wealth and culture, Prague was home to emperors, alchemists, astronomers, and, as it’s whispered, hell portals. When music student Sarah Weston lands a summer job at Prague Castle cataloging Beethoven’s manuscripts, she has no idea how dangerous her life is about to become. Prague is a threshold, Sarah is warned, and it is steeped in blood. Soon after Sarah arrives, strange things begin to happen.

Story
My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything. Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent. Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.

I was stunned to learn about Spain during ww2
When Spain declared. It was neutral country. I guess I believed it but what a lie that was.
What a hotbed of intrigue. I loved. And learned so much about espionage training . The story was so good I hated to see it end. Looking for ward to her next book. The narrator was right on time with German, French, Spanish , British and American accents. She never missed a beat with her delivery. Very good book .I could have done without the main character taking the Lord’ name in vain for no reason. But then again there is NEVER A REASON FOR THAT .

pop lit
I listened to this entire audiobook one night when I was sick and couldn't sleep. I'd call it a beach read, nothing too serious, nothing too complicated; the rather immature writing needed a good editor. Also, the reader is so irritating! Sounds like a child's voice, not an adult, and that made the entire story feel somewhere up next to (but not quite) adolescent. Consider it for your next flight or relaxing by a tropical pool.
