About this listen

From the author of While Paris Slept comes a story of great love, betrayal, and redemption, set in WWII and 1960s France and England.

"Words are power. They can bring you down, lift you up, make your heart soar, make you fall in love. Or make you hate."

Paris 1944. Elise Chevalier knows what it is to love…and to hate. Her fiancé, a young French soldier, was killed by the German army at the Maginot Line. Living amongst the enemy, Elise must keep her rage buried deep within.

Sebastian Kleinhaus no longer recognizes himself. Forced to join the Third Reich and wear a uniform he despises, he longs for a way out. For someone, anyone, to be his salvation.

Brittany 1963. Reaching for the suitcase under her mother’s bed, eighteen-year-old Josephine Chevalier uncovers a secret that shakes her to the core. Determined to find the truth, she travels to Paris where she learns the story of a forbidden love as a city fought for its freedom. Of the last stolen hours before the first light of liberation. And of a betrayal so deep that it would irrevocably change the course of two young lives life forever.

Excellent!

I will definitely be reading more from this author, and I enjoyed all three of the narrators, I will look for them in other audible books. I am so grateful for Audible!

Great book

I really enjoyed listening to this story. Such a sad horrible time in history. Man’s inhumanity to man is deplorable.

Long but worth it

As a reader of historical fiction at first thought I would not like the way this was framed… Dates locations and names for each chapter. But I got so caught up in it intriguing story that I just couldn’t wait for the next segment. My heart broke for the challenges they faced. I’m sure there were many such stories during those days of war.

Really enjoyed this book

I really enjoyed this book. It was sad, but very well written this is a fictional book however, I am sure this is a common story during World War II and I truly believe most Germans were good. I loved the narrators all three of them. I could’ve listen to their voices for hours.

Not my norm...

HOWEVER, I loved it! It was very well produced, had easy conversions in time, and should be made into a movie! 💕

Such a good listen!

This was one of my favorite WWII listens I’ve listened to, and I’ve listened to hundreds! It took me just a bit to get into it, which is normal to me, but once it had my attention I couldn’t quit listening to it!

Engaging historical fiction

This story takes place during and after ww 2, mostly in Paris and Brittany. It tells the story of a young French woman who falls in love with a German soldier in occupied paris. A good listen.

Prefer Author’s First Book

Enjoyed this story and found the narration to be pretty terrific, but still think that While Paris Slept is a much better read….
