Publisher's summary

A stranger who appears on Kat's doorstep turns out to be one Charlotte Bristow, legal wife of Joe Bristow, the man Kat once believed herself married to—who she thought died at sea twelve years ago. Kat is jolted by Charlotte’s claims that Joe was not only murdered but that he also had amassed a small fortune before he died. Charlotte makes the cook an offer she cannot refuse—if Kat can discover the identity of Joe's murderer, Charlotte will give her a share of the fortune Joe left behind.

With the help of Daniel McAdam, her attractive and charismatic confidante, Kat plunges into her own past to investigate. When it becomes apparent that the case of Joe’s death goes far deeper than simple, opportunistic theft, Kat and Daniel's relationship is put to the test, and Kat herself comes under scrutiny as her connection to Joe is uncovered. She must race to catch the real killer before she loses her job and possibly her life.

Great series but..

What’s up with Daniel’s voice? I keep pre-ordering these books because there are enough different story lines across the cast of characters, combined with mysteries that have interested me, to make me want to pursue. The narrator does a fine job with the female voices but is weak with the men, especially the leading male character, Daniel. I can barely hear his words and his sound is super annoying to me . But… I’ll be back for one more try!

Kept My Interest

A good story line and a good listen. Only complaint is I started this series with #6! Wish Daniel's voice was easier for me to hear and understand - too whispery. Really enjoyed.

Love this series!!

Love the series, the characters, the writing, the performance. I do agree that Daniel’s voice needs some work. Very hard to hear and too breathy. Other than that, flawless!!

Engaging characters in an upstairs/downstairs setting.

I’ve been enjoying each book in this series. I do wish for a narrator with a broader range of male voices. All the men are husky, whispering mumblers. And a few just sound creepy. Yet the voice of Kat is just right. Frustrating to listen to.

Sad to see it end.

I was hoping for another book in the series , however I think the author has concluded with this last book. It has been a lovely series to listen to as I love the setting, the characters and all the cooking!! Maybe there will be one more? I may only hope!

Love these characters

Loved this story. Finally some answers. Please do not kill off any of these characters. I will never forgive you.
What in the world is wrong with Daniel’s voice? It has changed drastically. He sounds ignorant and difficult to hear. Why the change in timbre? Most irritating

Jennifer Ashley

This series has been perfect. As much as I love the story of Kat and Daniel, I fear when they marry it will end. So I have mixed feelings. Absolutely love this series.

A change

I loved this story where Kat must investigate her own past. When Charlotte Bristow appears at the back door where Kat works she seems to bring nothing but trouble with her. Old hurts and regrets are brought to life, but Kat feels the need to try to solve this mystery and end her association with Joe Bristow forever. Kat wrestles with her feelings for Daniel and what the future will bring. I loved the investigation and revelations . The narrator was wonderful.
