About this listen

Perfect for fans of Frewin Jones' The Faerie Path and Aprilynne Pike's Wings series!

Have you ever learned a secret about yourself that could change your life forever?

When a mysterious and handsome boy showed up at my high school, all the girls wanted his attention. But who did he approach? Plain, less-than-ordinary me!

Words like changeling and dreamseer made my head spin as Declan, who claims to be my protector, tried to convince me that I’m actually a creature from the faerie realm, switched at birth with a human infant who is the true child of my parents.

Should I follow Declan's lead to discover the truth? How can I not?

What if what you dream came true? And what do you do if those dreams showed you horrible futures for those around you? What if you walked into school and came across a boy new to your school who was just in your dreams last night? And what if said boy who is better looking than anyone else seems intent on getting to know you and staying by you all day?
This is what our main character is faced with in this first book. Faced with health problems and the inability to be touched, she is isolated from everyone else at school except one girl. Then enter Declan who seems focused on getting to know her and convince her to come with him after only one day together. She learns that she is not really human, but a faerie changeling who must return home to faery before her birthday to prevent her her death. What will happen next? An interesting question, read on to find out!

Hope is a beautiful name that inspires the readers and characters to want more and believes there is more than just existing. Hope is a target for bullies until Declan arrives and changes her life.

I can't wait for the next book!

The Shadow of a Dream is an interesting story and I enjoyed the detailed and vivid descriptions. It ended very abruptly with a cliffhanger and was unfinished. The narrator did a nice job.

Cute story and good start to the series! I liked the idea of a changeling in modern time. I wish the story was longer. I hope book 2 is on Audible.
I liked the narratoea voice but the sound was off. Like she was talking into a bad microphone or something? If it did not sound like that then the narration would have been a 5 star.

This series is about the hidden depths in all of us and about choosing love.
I like Hope. I found her plight believable. Many times those that are bullied can’t easily find that help that they crave. (Bureaucracy is often the unseen big bad in this fight.)
Hope’s gentle spirit and her openness are what make her impressive. She is not looking for a knight in shining armor, but she doesn’t let others set her sense of self worth. She isn’t self-sabotaging.
This series starter didn’t get into the idea of faeries as much as I would have liked, but it did have my mind spinning possibilities for Hope.
As I write this review, I should note that I have already finished the whole series; and I got a review copy of the audiobook. Kashner did an excellent job of narrating this story. A great narrator can make a good book great. I felt that this book was great though it did cross my mind that I could tell that Lavenza had grown as an author between this series and the Heir of Prophecy series.

A Truly Enjoyable Series

I felt though this was a good and interesting story. I felt the author spent to much time of this book in the 1 day at school. Also she reiterated things often instead of 1 or 2 times which is all that was necessary. This story is geared towards teens mostly through again a good storyline.
