About this listen
Best-selling author Victoria Holt is universally popular for her breathtaking works of romance and fiction. Filled with strong-willed characters and set in exotic historical eras, each of her books spins an unforgettable tale. The Shadow of the Lynx follows beautiful young Nora Tamasin as she leaves her home in Victorian England. Recently orphaned, she sails toward the untamed lands of gold-rush Australia. Her journey will take her to the Lynx: the man her father designated as her guardian before he died. Rich, powerful, and commanding, the Lynx is a man who can safeguard her finances, but cannot control her heart. More than 56 million of Victoria Holt’s books have been sold worldwide. She also writes under the pen names of Jean Plaidy and Philippa Carr. Through the lyrical voice of narrator Virginia Leishman, The Shadow of the Lynx richly captures all the nuances of a family’s tempestuous passion and thirst for power.

Story
Mount Mellyn stood as proud and magnificent as she had envisioned. But what about its master—Connan TreMellyn? Was Martha Leigh's new employer as romantic as his name sounded? As she approached the mansion towering above the cliffs of Cornwall, an odd chill of apprehension overcame her. TreMellyn's young daugher proved as spoiled and difficult as the three governesses before Martha had discovered. But it was the girl's father whose arrogant demeanor unleashed unfamiliar sensations and turmoil—even as whispers of past tragedy and present danger begin to insinuate themselves into her life.

After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Story
Favel Farrington meets Roc Pendorric on the idyllic Mediterranean island of Capri, where she was raised and lives with her father. Roc sweeps her off her feet, taking her from her home by an emerald sea to the ancient family home of the Pendorrics, in Cornwall. His sister and her family await them with open arms, welcoming young Favel. She is the much anticipated Bride of Pendorric, a name that amuses and flatters her.

Almost gave up, glad I didn’t!
At first the heroine seemed just too naive for too long. But then there were surprises. A decent listen.

Okay, I guess…
Although somewhat predictable, the premise of the story was interesting, for lack of a better word. If you like to read about overwhelming revenge and greed, this book would be to your liking. At times it was a bit redundant in characters, action, and dialogue. Most of the characters were incredibly weak-willed and unlikeable. It became a bit tedious and I found my mind wandering, but able to tune back in and still follow the storyline. The narration was okay. However, sometimes, particularly in dialogue, it was hard to distinguish between characters. The quality of the recording was quite poor. Throughout the entire audio book, there was a white noise in the background. I didn’t absolutely hate the book, but I was glad when it finally ended.

Terrific Romantic Adventure
Victoria Holt has such a gift for telling a story with style. This was like three books in one, with so many separate narratives which came together in the end. The section with Australia was so real, the descriptions made me feel like I was really there. The characters were very interesting and engaging. The narration was really nice as well. It’s a long story, but do keep listening, it all does come together pretty well in the end. Even still, I was left with a few unanswered questions though. I guess that gives a better sense of mystery to the story, with more still waiting to be discovered. Enjoy!

Oldie but good
I loved Victoria Holt novels as a teenager, and this was one of my favorites. The audible version is perfection. Lovely narration does justice to this wonderful romantic novel.

not her best book
The narrator was excellent, but the story dragged and the plot twists seemed contrived., cheesy, and ridiculous. I missed Holt's usual lyrical prose. Kind of sorry I spent my credit on this title as I will never listen to it again.

I have to admit that I wasn't sure who the culprit(s) were in this story or where it was going. It was a very good mystery and an interesting story. I enjoyed it.

Required heading
I enjoy all of Victoria Holt's books. Leishman's
Voice is perfect for this Story. I'm must say, though requiring 15 words for a review Is very off putting I will not review a book again.
