Another Great Story by Barbara Goss ⛪

This is a well-written piece by Barbara Goss.

Elsa is from Russia and doesn't speak very much English. One day Rance observes Elsa and her father without interest until Elsa is struck by her father. Rance marries Elsa on the spot [almost] with the intention of rescuing her from an abusive.

My major quibble with this story is that, although Rance is a perfect gentleman and provider, he expects Elsa to learn English. He is focused on this point more than anything and makes he makes no effort to learn some Russian phrases.***SPOILER***Until the very end. This made me think that this is the first hero, in the many Barbara Goss books that I have listened to that is a class A jerk.

Becky Boyd gives a strong, better-than-average performance.

Love can happen even when you do not want to wed

Elsa is a German immigrant who moved to Kansas with her family. She speaks no English and her abusive father wants nothing more than to marry her off to a rich man even if they cannot speak to one another. He plots to force one of the most wealthy horse breeders to marry his daughter and through her fear, she carries out the plan reluctantly. She soon finds that the heart cannot be silenced even when there are no words to speak.

Rance owns one of the best horse breeding ranches in Kansas. He is good with horses and people, but his tender heart also gets him in trouble when he finds himself married to a young woman who does not speak a word of English. He figures out that it is not her fault, but wonders how much influence her father still has. Even though he is not happy about being tricked this beautiful soft spoken woman is quickly invading his heart.

Both Rance and Elsa try to communicate and learn about each other and quickly learn that sometimes all you need is the heart. Elsa starts to learn English and Rance tries to figure out how to court his wife so that there may be a chance of real love. But just as they start to communicate, someone wants them to break apart.

Barb is continuing her great story telling in this book! Becky Boyd did a great job with the accents and pace of the story! Looking forward to book four!

Good One

I got this ARC via audiobook boom. This started out as a not so good story until you realize that each of the women is a victim. I loved the twists and turns the author took and the integrity of both the H and h.The story was well developed and I loved the role that Wade and the housekeeper played. This was less than five hours but the narrator did a good job and made the story come alive. There are several stories in this series and they all weave together but each is a stand alone and can be read and know that the story is complete. Although it would be better to read all of the books in the series to get the full story. But you don't lose if you only read this one.

Good cowboy romance

Barbara Goss touches on the subject of parental abuse by the father and shows clearly how the mother and the daughters feel and their reactions to this abuse.
The way this story has been written it is easy to imagine what it must have been like for Rance and Elsa to find themselves in a shotgun marriage situation where neither of them understood what the other was saying because they didn't speak the same language. They worked hard to overcome this barrier so that they could get to know each other and soon fell in love.
I loved the honesty and the working together and the gelling of the two main characters in this story and the support of friends and close family.
This audiobook version has a good narrator in Becky Boyd and I especially love her rendition of Elsa. She really comes across as being very innocent and quite cute..
I am very happy to recommend this story as a good, clear, cowboy romance and hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
The audiobook version was provided free of charge by the author and the above is my honest and unbiased review.

Recommended for historical romance readers

Would you consider the audio edition of The Shotgun Proposal to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed the audio version very much

Have you listened to any of Becky Boyd’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

no

Any additional comments?

A story of overcoming a language barrier and cultural differences in an arranged marriage.
With these obstacles and even a murder plot, will love be able to keep the couple together? This is a love story not to miss, especially when being read by Becky Boyd. She does an excellent job with the accents. This is a story of love, intrigue and faith.

very sweet!

I really enjoyed this clean and sweet romance. Elsa and Rance were a great couple - they took the time to get to know each other and I really appreciated the way their relationship developed. The narration was also good. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author.

Lots of Intrigue

What a beautiful story. Two people who can’t speak to each other get set-up to be caught in a comprising situation then have a shotgun wedding forced on them. She speaks only German, he speaks only English so can’t talk to each other at all, don’t.know each other, can this work? There’s a whole gamut of emotions in this book. This is a very well written book Barb Goss!

Learning to listen to God's will

This was a story of an arranged marriage forced by an abusive father. In this story Elsa married a God fearing man to treated his wife great tenderness. Elsa could only speak German and her husband could only speak English. God have Rance a housekeeper who could translate for them. This was a great story of learning to be friends first. This is a clean read and a well written book. I was given a copy for an honest review. I highly recommend this story.
