About this listen

‘I’m so sorry, Casey,’ my link worker John said, sounding weary. ‘I know this is probably the worst time I could ring you, but we desperately need someone to take a child tonight.’

It’s the night before Christmas when Casey and Mike get the call. A twelve year old girl, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Her father is on a ventilator, fighting for his life, while her mother is currently on remand in prison. Despite claiming she attacked him in self-defence, she’s been charged with his attempted murder.

The girl is called Bella, and she’s refusing to say anything. The trouble is that she is also the only witness…

great book, but the narrator is awful

I've never heard anything like it before. she'd be good for childrens books....maybe, but not for a serious book like this. Her voice was super high pitched, dreadfully slow, borderline condescending and delivered in weird rhythms.

The story itself was great, as with all of Cathy Watson books are. except excellent plot twist. Going forward, I think I'm going to have to read the rest of her books from my kindle.

Silent witness

I'm really disappointed in the narrator, I have to listen sometime 3 times. the story itself was great but it took me a while to understand sometimes who was speaking.

Poor Narration

This is a great book and I rarely ever post a poor review concerning narration. . But I really really struggled with this narrator. At times monotone, found my mind drifting frequently. At other time’s vacillated between fast vs slow pace that conflicted with how you know the character meant to be speaking. Sometimes she sounded like a normal person might speak then all of a sudden she spoke like a 19th century British nanny read to toddlers. It’s a shame too because it seemed she narrates all of Casey Watson’s books. I had intended to listen to them all but I won’t now.
