About this listen

Cathy Glass, international bestselling author, tells the shocking story of Zeena, a young Asian girl desperate to escape from her family.

When 14 -year-old Zeena begs to be taken into care with a non-Asian family, she is clearly petrified. But of what?

Placed in the home of experienced foster carer Cathy and her family, Zeena gradually settles into her new life, but misses her little brothers and sisters terribly. Prevented from having any contact with them by her family who insist she has brought shame and dishonour on the whole community, Zeena tries to see them at school. But when her father and uncle find out, they bundle her into a car and threaten to set fire to her if she makes anymore trouble. Zeena is too frightened to press charges against them despite being offered police protection in a safe house.

Eventually, Cathy discovers the devastating truth from Zeena, and with devastation she believes there is little she can do to help her.

very touching

great book yet very sad story can not believe anyone could hurt children like the little girl in this story . luckily for the little girl in this story was very lucky to have people who really cared about her well being. And right on for the case manager i give her a high five investigating and taking the time that was needed and going to the extreme to make sure the little girl in this story was kept safe and protected from the ones that were traumatizing her and making sure they were convicted, and placed in custody serving time so they can't hurt anymore children! they deserve to rot in prison

Beautiful story- and updates on cathy's website!

What made the experience of listening to The Child Bride the most enjoyable?

The author sounded like she was Cathy just telling me her story. Warm, loving voice of the narrator took me right into the story. Actually, the first night i started listening i couldn't stop until the wee hours of the morning.

What other book might you compare The Child Bride to and why?

Tory Haden's books and Mary Mc Cracken's books. They were teachers but were writing about the same subjects- helping children who were in trouble.

What does Denica Fairman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The book is set in England and she sounds like a loving, English (not American/ Canadian) mom. I liked her accent.

Any additional comments?

Bonus deal: Also got 3 pairs of pants hemmed while listening to this story. Kind of like when i would save my mending or folding for Oprah to come on. Now i didn't have to wait for a specific time. And as i listened on the cloud format, it started where i left off without me having to rewind or fast forward or anything!

i never saw it coming

poor Zena. I saw the child brode part coming because of the title, but I never imagined how much worse it could get. Thank you, Cathy for the part you played to help Zena find her confidence. I wish I could have helped her myself! strong work Cathy!

Incredible

This book was a sad yet hopeful look into a culture that many of us do not hear of or understand. As Cathy takes in a young Asian girl who has been abused in ways Cathy has not experienced she is impressed by a young lady who is able to forgive and continue on with her life.

I was extremely touched by this book and learned much about a culture I knew some about but do not understand.

The Child Bride

I love Cathy Glass books and this is one of her best. A tragic tale, unfortunately true for many girls.

By far my favorite!

I have listened to several Cathy Glass books and this has been, by far, my favorite! The horrific events this poor girl endured are unimaginable. Thank you Cathy for being such a pinnacle part of this young girls life.

Love Cathy Glass!

I’m almost through all of her books now. They are my favorite thing to listen to on Audible. I work with foster children as an advocate and these books have taught me so much! The stories are always so interesting and informative. I feel like I know Cathy and her family from her books- what a lovely family!
I also really love the narration by Denica Fairman, she is wonderful!

Well written, riveting story

I listened to this Audible version and I could barely do anything else until I was finished. It shines the light on a problem no one talks about as well as the power of fostering. I love Cathy's sweet parenting style.
