About this listen

Lithia’s father tells the story of Hoban Boson, a long-ago captain of a ship on Earth, and his defiance against those who would try to take their freedom. Hoban convinced his crew to go up against the Falcon, the ship that had landed in Buzzard Bay to lay claim to the town. Hoban’s crew and ship, the Success, was much smaller than the Falcon, but to him, that didn’t matter. What mattered was standing up to those who would subjugate and terrorize.

Lithia is old enough to know that bad guys don’t win in the end, and young enough to be scared when all seems lost. Will Hoban triumph over Captain Kajiura and the Falcon, or will Buzzard Bay be lost?

Entertaining Narration

The narration is so bright and optimistic. The story gives hope in our daily live and advises us that it's better to die trying rather than giving up. It follows a little girl named Lithia and her father has he tells her a tale of one of their ancestors who was facing impossible odds. It is entertaining and has portrayed the theme of heroism and overcoming troubles energetically and with brevity. The emotions in the narrations are well expressed, and one could tell the mood of the story at any given point. The author has used simple and clear English, with a polite language that makes the story touching and mind absorbing. The story is good and recommended for all.

Inspiring like the main book

Another tale of heroism against all odds, well written and well narrated by Emily. Keeps true to the ideals of the series, as a heroic warrior does what he must, acting with bravery even when survival is not guaranteed. Entertaining and riveting, and I could really feel the characters' emotions and felt invested in the captain's struggle. Very enjoyable, highly recommend.

Slow start, satisfying ending

If you haven’t read the Amaranth Chronicles: Deviant Rising (highly recommended book), then this short story is not very interesting or meaningful.

This short is intriguing since you get to experience character development in one of the main characters in Deviant Rising: Lithia.

I anticipated a cliche ending midway through, but got edged out of a clinche ending when the authors threw a curveball. The parallels or orthogonalities (depending on how you interpret it) from this short to the Deviant Rising are worth the listen alone. Enjoy.

PS: Narrator killed it for the most part. But could have a better man sounding voice.

A Great Audiobook

This is a really great book and was nicely narrated through the eyes of a child. You feel the hopes and the troubles of the girl Lithia as you sit alongside her, listening to the story as well. I highly recommend this book if you prefer listening to books rather than reading them. The pace and setting of it all made it an enjoyable piece.

an unusual children's story

it's wonderful to read children's stories for the lessons. This is a unique lesson in so poignant in the grand scheme of the amaranth Chronicles. Such a fun read to from the perspective of Lithia as a young girl.

Quite entertaining!

I really loved how the book is narrated. You actually get to feel all the emotions that the characters go through as they show bravery in this book. We get to see the world through the eyes of Lithia, a young girl who loves her father dearly and looks up to him. The father narrates a story about how her ancestors fought strong and triumphed over evil. This is a great audiobook for kids and i know a lot of adults will enjoy it too, the way that I did.
