About this listen

France, 1944. The streets are filled with swastikas. This is the story of a brave English girl behind enemy lines, a German soldier, and a terrible sacrifice.

When young English nurse Sibyl Lake is recruited as a spy to support the French resistance, she doesn’t realize the ultimate price she will end up paying. She arrives in Colmar, a French town surrounded by vineyards and swarming with German soldiers, but her fear is dampened by the joy of being reunited with her childhood sweetheart Jacques.

Sibyl’s arrival has not gone unnoticed by Commander Wolfgang von Haagan, and she realizes that letting him get closer is her best chance of learning enemy secrets. Yet despite her best intentions, Sibyl soon finds that betrayal does not come easy to her.

When Jacques finds that Sibyl is involved with the enemy, he is determined to prove himself to her with one last act of heroism - an act that will put all of their lives in terrible danger.

A beautifully written, heart-wrenching, and unforgettable tale of love and loss in a time of war, The Soldier’s Girl is perfect for fans of The Letter by Kathryn Hughes and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.

In the same category (best WW 2 books)!!Wow

The story was so good and there were so many twists and turns. I learned so much about Alsace. I actually followed the real life battle in Wikipedia as I read the book. It is incredibly accurate! And I fell in love with so many of the characters, all vastly different, and appropriate for the time place and situation. I will literally miss them! It’s a must read!!

Thx for keeping the truth alive..,

Ms Maas,
Thx for keeping this horrific happening alive in our history. As in turn 80, I’m saddened by the younger, generations who don’t want to know why they have freedom.
• YOU ARE INDEED AN INSPIRATION THAT ALL IS NOT LOST RE OUR PAST.
• PLEASE, stay strong, determined, & resolved NOT to allow these atrocities to be forgotten.

Grateful for your bravery,
Ms Carole

Good WWII History of France

I enjoyed listening to the story which takes place in a part of France I knew nothing about, or for that matter WWII's affect on this region of France. I actually want to visit this region now.
The story and characters were fictional and I liked getting to know them. I did at times have a hard time with Sybil the main character. She would go into these "lectures " on why she made certain decisions or why she felt as did towards people. I kept wondering if this was how the Author felt and was projecting into her character, especially as it was about Germans. Which I'm sure Authors do.. and not a problem. I just got tired of the long winded self awareness of Cybil..But I did enjoy the story very much.
Narration was fine, you can distinctly tell each Character..By the way I loved Margo..

Fantastic

I couldn’t get enough of this story! I’ve traveled to the Alsace Region of France and I was so moved by the accurate and magical descriptions of the area. I absolutely loved the character development, the plot, and the setting. The story was so well written, I didn’t want it to end.

Captivating

I couldn't quit listening. This story came from a different direction of any other I have read about world war II. I was very intrigued by her bravery and how even though she feel in love, she stayed true to the end. The writer conveys a warm compassionate look at her part in the victory over Hitler. Read flawlessly, expressing feelings emotion, and tone of the story perfectly. I look forward to the next title by this author.
