So when pompous, pious Reverend Josiah Holworthy publicly condemns him for debauchery, Wrexford unsheathes his rapier-sharp wit and strikes back. Publisher's summary
"Vikas Adam's talent for accents is highlighted as he voices the key characters, and his pacing builds the tension."—AudioFile
This program, the third installment of Nev March's Captain Jim and Lady Diana Mysteries series, is narrated by Audie Award-winning narrator Vikas Adam. March's previous audiobook, Murder in Old Bombay, was nominated for a 2022 Mystery Audie Award
In The Spanish Diplomat's Secret, award-winning author Nev March explores the vivid nineteenth-century world of the transatlantic voyage, one passenger’s secret at a time.
Captain Jim Agnihotri and his wife Lady Diana Framji are embarking to England in the summer of 1894. Jim is hopeful the cruise will help Diana open up to him. Something is troubling her, and Jim is concerned.
On their first evening, Jim meets an intriguing Spaniard, a fellow soldier with whom he finds an instant kinship. But within twenty-four hours, Don Juan Nepomuceno is murdered, his body discovered shortly after he asks rather urgently to see Jim.
When the captain discovers that Jim is an investigator, he pleads with Jim to find the killer before they dock in Liverpool in six days, or there could be international consequences. Aboard the beleaguered luxury liner are a thousand suspects, but no witnesses to the locked-cabin crime. Jim would prefer to keep Diana safely out of his investigation, but he’s doubled over, seasick. Plus, Jim knows Diana can navigate the high society world of the ship's first-class passengers in ways he cannot.
Together, using the tricks gleaned from their favorite fictional sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, Jim and Diana must learn why one man’s life came to a murderous end.
A Macmillan Audio production from Minotaur Books.
Critic reviews
"Vikas Adam transports listeners back to 1894 as Jim Agnihotri, an investigator, and his wife, Lady Diana Framji, travel to England by ship.... Adam's outstanding portrayals of both Jim and Diana create highly believable characters. His depiction of Diana is particularly strong, injecting just the right amount of inflection to represent a woman of her background. His talent for accents is highlighted as he voices the key characters, and his pacing builds the tension as the race is on to solve the murder before the ship docks." (AudioFIle)
“March’s gift for elevated language nicely supports the period setting. . . Familiar mystery tropes are skillfully woven into an entertaining vintage whodunit.”–Kirkus Reviews

Sorry to see it end!
I’ve enjoyed the whole series!
The reading is fine, but I’m not as familiar with Indian accepts to comment. They sounded authentic to me

How Tedious!
Chapter 10. I would like to return this book but at Chapter 10, what do you do except hope it gets better. Omg, so much vomiting! This is worse than listening to the news.
