About this listen

The epic conclusion to The Dagger and The Coin series, perfect for fans of George R.R. Martin.

Lord Regent Geder Palliako's great war has spilled across the world, nation after nation falling before the ancient priesthood and weapon of dragons. But even as conquest follows conquest, the final victory retreats before him like a mirage. Schism and revolt begin to erode the foundations of the empire, and the great conquest threatens to collapse into a permanent conflict of all against all.

In Carse, with armies on all borders, Cithrin bel Sarcour, Marcus Wester, and Clara Kalliam are faced with the impossible task of bringing a lasting peace to the world. Their tools: traitors high in the imperial army, the last survivor of the dragon empire, and a financial scheme that is either a revolution or the greatest fraud in the history of the world.

Excellent narration! Engaging characters. I “found” Daniel Abraham because I enjoyed the Expanse series so much. So glad I did!

Excellent Series!

Great story! This is a complex, character driven fantasy
that I would not classify as YA. The characters are well developed
and the descriptions are superb The only criticism I have is that perhaps the story is a but overambitious.

Excellent Narrator

This fifth book in the series ties up all plot lines in a very satisfying manner.

Fun read

Perfect ending to the series. Worth the read. Master Kit & Marcus and bromance you didn’t think you needed

Each book in the series get more endearing AND more exciting! Truly enjoyed this series. I'm already looking forward to listening to it again, in the not distant future, so I can really savor the characters now that I know how they will grow (or not, as the case may be!).

Lovely series

I never expected to get pulled into this series like I did. Strong, compex characterizations and intricate, consistent plotting. Well done!

Superb Finish to This Awesome Series

This is a review of Daniel Abraham's "Dagger & the Coin" series, not just of The Spider's War. Mr. Abraham's characters are richly three-dimensional and interesting, and I cared about what happened to them right out of the gate. Even the arch-villains were sympathetic to a degree, which was refreshing in a genre where often the bad guys are just boring.

I found the story - and the story-telling - both complex and rich without unnecessary or jarring plot convolutions that some authors use to move the story forward. Pete Bradbury is now one of my favorite voice actors; his voicing, modulations, inflections, and tones were just right for each character. I never wondered who was speaking at any given time.

All in all, if you're a fan of fantasy epic series where the story is compelling, the characters are believable, and the narration keeps you absorbed, then this series, The Dagger & the Coin, could be right up your alley.

So Good!

One of the best series I have ever listened to. Both the story and the narration are well above average.

Great Series

Almost everything is tied up in a satisfying conclusion. Even seemingly minor events and people from earlier boos get callbacks that make their original appearances richer.

There are seeds planted for a successor major story, but I don’t know that I need one. Between The Dagger and the Coin ant The Expanse, I think I’ve learned what Abraham has to say about people, societies, and how people ought to act when constrained by those societies. That was fun and meaningful to read. But I suspect anything further, while still fun, would hit less deeply.

In any case the maybe 300 hours of listening those two series have given me are much appreciated.

The best of a very good series
