About this listen

The legendary country music songwriter known as the Storyteller delivers the genre's most bracing, hilarious, and unique memoir, bringing to life long-gone characters from Nashville's streets and barrooms and detailing his one-of-a-kind journey in music. This expanded edition of Hall'soriginal 1979 book includes never-before-heard poems and vignettes - read by the author - and new chapters that bring us up to date with Hall as he sits with President Carter, caps his recording career, quits drinking, ponders his legacy, examines the creative process, and retires from the music industry. "If youwant to retire, go ahead," he says. "Life will still present innumerable occasions for you to go out and make an ass of yourself."

Even if you don't know country....

I am not a fan of country music, but still found this to be a great listen. The narration was spot on.

A time capsule of Nashville

Peter Cooper does a great job creating an atmosphere throughout the entire book. Tom T’s voiceovers are spectacular

Old Dogs…Children…and Tom T

Interesting take on a Nashville legend.

I was hoping for more about some of the backstories to more of his classics like “Old Dogs…”

I was a disc jockey during TTH’s heyday and always liked his stylings. Songs with a story not a message or the common drinking cheating songs of the day.

Glad that he and Miss Dixie went on to a second career in bluegrass music composing.

A real Hall of Famer in more ways than one.

Inspiring, thoughtful and down right eye opening.

As a song writer I really enjoyed Tom opening his mind, thought and soul.

Important book

I read the print version shortly after its release. The efforts of Peter Cooper, Tom T and all involved have elevated the character and quality of this book- which is no small achievement and until now I would have thought an impossibility.

Must read!

I grew up with Tom T Hall playing in the background. To hear the story of this gifted storyteller gave me a better glimpse into his humble arrival into Nashville. You won’t be disappointed with this read.

Delightful history of a legend

This is the delightful history of a legend I never heard of before listening to this book. I’m not a country music fan, so I never knew about Tom T. Hall. I was attracted to the book by the word “storyteller” in the title.
However, I was much impressed with his style and lyrics. It truly gave me a glimpse of an era in America that I am interested in studying.
The writing is superb. However, the foul language, even though it is real to his character, was offensive to me. I’m simply not accustomed to hearing it. I wish there was a PG version because I would love to recommend the book to my friends and family.

An in depth biography

The title is kind of misleading. I thought it was stories about Country music stars of Nashville. The books subject matter is Toms life and especially his song writing career. It is interjected with poetic thoughts.
