Publisher's summary

Can a football superstar fall for the girl next door?

When the NFL goes on strike, Super Bowl champion Peyton O'Rourke ends up back in his hometown as a substitute teacher and high school football coach. The one thing he didn't count on? Maddy Cooper being newly single. She's the hot-girl-next-door type. Literally. She's literally the cute girl next door and his best friend's (now ex) girl. And even though he knows he should be with anyone other than Maddy Cooper - well, you know the drill.

Things are going to get hot. Heavy. Does Facebook still have an "It's complicated" button? Because it's about to go down.

WOW

Mickey kicked this one out of the stadium! The Narrators did an amazing job as well. You will experience the heroine grow into the strong woman she ends up being. The hero is a fun loving jokester. Together they overcome their troubles and turn into an amazing couple.

Great story and narration

Mickey Miller is a new author to me and I have no idea why that is. This book was narrated by Sebastian York and CJ Bloom who did a great job in bringing Peyton O’Rourke and Maddy Cooper’s story to life for me.
From chapter one I was hooked and kept telling myself, just one more chapter. This is a second chance slightly taboo love story as Maddy is the ex girlfriend of Peyton’s friend.
There is certainly plenty of steam within this story and the narration only enhanced it as the friendship between Peyton and Maddy finally progressed. I loved how feisty and determined Maddy is and that she refuses to settle for second best any more. Peyton to me was swoon worthy and captured my attention from the start, even if I first thought he was a bit of an obnoxious jerk. However he soon grew on my and I swiftly fell for the caring and passionate man who has come back to help put his old school and check n on his grandmother whilst the NFL is on strike.
Once Peyton and Maddy got together, they came into their own, not only as a couple but also separately and this shone through in the storytelling. This may have been my first book from Mickey Miller but be assured it will not be my last.

Crushing on the Substitute!

OMG! The chemistry and sexual tension through this book was insane! I loved it right from the beginning and quickly became addictive. The audio version of this book definitely brought it to a whole other level. These narrators were perfect in bringing Payton and Maddy's story to life. Amazingly written in dual POV, Mickey Miller brings another unputdownable romance in these characters you cant help fall in love with.

Home is where the heart is!

There’s no doubt in my mind that if there was a a substitute like Peyton in my high school, I definitely would have paid a lot more attention in class (wink wink)!

The Substitute is the story of NFL star Peyton O'Rourke, who unfortunately is out of job now that the league is on strike (yikes!). This forces him to head on back to his hometown to substitute teach and coach his old school's football team. All is well enough right? That is until he sees his Magpie aka Maddy Cooper, his best friend’s girlfriend only this time she’s single..she also works at the high school AND she’s just right next door; I guess some things don’t change and this could be his shot except, his stay is only until the strike is over, right? How long can Peyton fight his feelings til he cracks? This friends to lovers, sports romance delivered all the feels. I enjoyed listening to the chemistry brewing and banter between the MCs, especially the banter! I love a story where buttons are pushed until neither can take it anymore and then something hot ignites! Mickey Miller expertly delivers your cocky male and girl next door that you
can’t help it but continue until you realize you finished the story in one sitting!

As always, Sebastian York delivers. I can listen to that man narrate all day long. He is definitely on my one clock list, no doubt. He narrates Peyton perfectly. CJ Bloom also did an amazing job!

Overall, The Substitute was hot, funny and enjoyable. I finished in one sitting and that says a lot for me. Five gold stars for this Mickey Miller story. Happy listening all!

Love Sebastian York

This story was meh…. I’m not a fan of the miscommunication trope or a weaker female lead. It’s ok. Spice level 🌶️🌶️

Oh My Substitute!

This is not my first book by either Mickey Miller or Sebastian York and CJ Bloom. It's a trifecta of talent. I loved the performance and narration, Sebastian's voice is like sex on a stick.

The story was great. I loved how Magpie surprised Peyton at every turn. I also agree with the advice Peyton got from his Grandmother. It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for.

Second chance at happiness

This was my first book by this author. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it and became invested in the characters. Peyton is an NFL quarterback that comes home to visit with his sick grandmother while the league is on strike. He is offered a substitute teaching and coaching position at the local school. Maddie lives next door and also teaches at the school. Maddie dated Eric, Peyton’s best friend from high school until about 10 months prior. Peyton gives her some private lessons to help her explore things that she’s never experienced while with Eric. They keep this all a big secret, but can feelings stay out of the way? It’s inevitable that they won’t, but will they give into them?

This was probably the most that I’ve enjoyed listening to Sebastian York. CJ Bloom did an amazing job, too.

I look forward to the next book in the series.
