Publisher's summary

“A breathtaking story of an extraordinary friendship. Molly Fader has penned an unforgettable novel that is sure to be one of the year’s best.”—Kristy Woodson Harvey, New York Times bestselling author of The Wedding Veil

Two friends. A lifetime of secrets. One sparkling story.

1967 Iowa. Nursing school roommates BettyKay and Kitty don’t have much in common. BettyKay has risked her family’s disapproval to pursue her dreams away from her small town. Cosmopolitan Kitty has always relied on her beauty and smarts to get by and to hide a painful secret. Yet the two share a determination to prove themselves in a changing world, forging an unlikely bond on a campus unkind to women.

Before their first year is up, tragedy strikes, and the women’s paths are forced apart. But against all odds, a decades-long friendship forms, persevering through love, marriage, failure, and death, from the jungles of Vietnam to the glamorous circles of Hollywood. Until one snowy night leads their relationship to the ultimate crossroads.

Fifty years later, two estranged sisters are shocked when a famous movie star shows up at their mother's funeral. Over one tumultuous weekend, the women must reckon with a dazzling truth about their family that will alter their lives forever...

Wonderful story of a deep friendship formed in nursing school

Loved this story of three women who bond in nursing school and the ways they support each other throughout their lives. Thought the “secrets” revealed after a funeral of one of the women were interwoven well and revealed at just the right pace. Hollywood and the Viet Nam war also play a part in this engaging tale.

Sweet Story

This is a touching story about friendship and family relationships. I enjoyed most of it, although at times I felt the story dragged a bit. The author’s note at the end was a very nice touch, and it added good context as I reflected on the story. I enjoyed the narration as well.

Lifelong Friendship

Excellent character development. I loved this story of a lifelong friendship. We are always surprised to discover our parents actually had a life that didn’t always revolve around us.

The narrator and the storyline!

This was an amazing read. The characters were so raw, so real. I loved it!

Outstanding

This book was thought provoking and emotional for me due to many similarities in my 75 years of life. The late 1960-70s and Viet Nam war so familiar! Very well written and performed.

A Very Enjoyable Story

I liked how real the characters were, a believable combination of strengths and imperfections. The narrator did an excellent job bringing the story to life. I had no difficulty differentiating character to character.

Definitely worth the credit!

This was such a fantastic book. The characters were distinct, vibrant and believable. They weren’t perfect and they sometimes made bad or painful decisions, but it never felt contrived. This book has grit, and it delves into both the glamour and dark side of Hollywood. And at the heart of it all is a female friendship for the ages.

I’ve struggled with the last several books I’ve read, but I tore through this one in a day or two. Definitely recommend!
