Publisher's summary

Charlie Rhodes is psychic, telekinetic, and hiding in the one place where they’re looking for her. Enthusiastic to the point of being absurd, Charlie is gung-ho about her position with the Legacy Foundation, a group that travels the world looking to solve the unexplained and prove the existence of the paranormal.

From one coast to the next, she (along with her merry band of misfits) investigates strange and odd phenomena...all the while pretending she’s a normal human being without magical to call on.

It’s a big secret, and she’s determined to keep it...even as she grows closer and closer with her co-workers.

This three-book omnibus includes: The Megalodon Mix-Up, The Undead Uproar, and The Incubus Impasse.

Hate the way the main character has no self esteem

there is so much arguing over the main character's boyfriend amongst coworkers. Also how many times does she have to oggle her boyfriend's looks when he wakes and compares it to herself is so lame. I love that this book doesn't give details into sexual escapades. I wished there were more adult books that did this.

Narrator

I enjoy this series. Sometimes the narrator's voice is annoying. Today was it for me.

5 stars

This series gets better and better. Charlie and Jack make a great team. The writing is solid with lots of twists and turns. I look forward to the next book.

Appreciate the new narrator and the series finally taking off!! :)

Books 5 & 6 finally took the series to that magical place we want these books to live in.
Happy for the new narrator as well. The last one did improve quite a bit since book 1 but that first book was almost painful to listen to.
This voice actor has more range, and is not monotonous - which I appreciate.
This series is a little bit of a slow burn but I’m happy to see it begin to perk up!!

Great story lines

I really enjoy the story line and most of the characters. Charlie the main character drives me insane. The constant whining and confrontation has made me almost stop the series several times. I am on book 4, I sure hope it gets better.

Good story

Charlie is way too wimpy and Jack irritatingly macho but story is fun! Laura could never last in the real world!

Could not finish the 3rd book

The narrator is utterly terrible. She has four voices (a forced husky male voice, a whiny high pitched female voice, a rich pompous female voice, and her regular voice), and she switches between almost doing accents and then not doing any accents. The narration is completely distracting.

The stories start off kind of cute, but then the main character turns into a woman who needs saving, is almost helpless despite the fact that she can do magic, and is easily manipulated by her big strong man. He doesn’t respect her ability to function as an independent woman and she just goes along with it. It is insulting. Plus, the cutesy gushy banter between the main characters gets so over the top that I find myself gagging. I could not finish the last book. It was painful to listen to.

It is such a shame because I really like the premise of the books; I just can’t get past the characters (or the terrible narrating).

I didn’t hate it

What do I like and dislike? I enjoyed the story/mystery and the tidbit of drama with Laura. Laura’s a trip and needed more finesse. She lacks guile and a cunning personality. She was all “bump and go”. As for Charley, with the exception of her infatuation with what appears to be the king of control, she’s okay. I wish her abilities would play more of a part in the book, though, and I’m beginning to wonder, if Jack will ever find out about them. What stood out most? It was Jack’s overinflated response to pretty much everything. Jack seemed more patient and tolerant in the first three books, but has become controlling to the point of the husband in “Sleeping With the Enemy”. He comes across as volatile and incredibly uncompromising. That Charley thinks he’s a “dream” is almost nauseating. Also, the narrator never lightens up on Jack’s gruff, monotone voice which may contribute to my current dislike of this character. He would be more likable if a nuance or two were added to his voice. Otherwise, he’s one dimensional with no introspection of an underlying kindness. Narration needs a little work. All in all, the story (book 4) kept my interest. I would say it’s “okay”.
