About this listen

It should have been a case like any other: a missing princess, a king willing to pay in gold for her return. But before he realizes it, private investigator Eddie LaCrosse, a slightly shopworn sword jockey with a talent for discretion and detection, is swept up in a web of mystery and deceit involving a brutally murdered royal heir, a queen accused of an unspeakable crime, and the tragic past he thought he'd left behind.©2007 Alex Bledsoe (P)2009 Blackstone Audio, Inc. An excellent story

I bought this because I had a hankering for Glen Cooks Garette series and that wasn't on audible. I wound up enjoying this every bit as much and listened to the rest of the series. Excellent books. I wish there were more than 5. AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY

Very enjoyable

Altogether very enjoyable! I love Rudnicki's voice and the story was well-paced. A strong start to a series.

Epic Fantasy + Mystery = Awesome

What a lovely surprise! I wasn't expecting much, but this was an awesome adventure. It's like an epic fantasy and a mystery novel had a baby creating this fun book.

The narrator with his wonderfully gravely voice is just perfect for this too.

Decent story but Anachronistic language

I stuck with the story because it was interesting but it was disturbing that the main character lived in a world comparable to the 16th century while using language like a hardened detective from a Humphrey Bogart movie.

Great Story!

It is a slow start but the narrator has you wanting to keep listening. The descriptive details has you right in the story with the main character. I love how this is a detective story with mystical elements and just has you ducked in. Going to read the rest of the books in the series!

Started off good, and kept getting better

I'm always amazed when a book can surprise and delight me, and this one did. Stefan Rudnicki did an amazing job bringing the story to life. Though this was a detective tale like thousands of others there was something about it that made it engaging throughout the story. I look forward to checking out other books by Alex Bledsoe.

An unexpected surprise

I wasn't sure what to expect but this hit the spot. A mixture of a detective and fantasy story. Just the right mix. Glad I stumbled upon it.

Narrator really matches the well-spun story

If you’re looking for a novel reminiscent of the old private detective series but set in a world full of swords, horses and the occasional magical occurrence then this is for you.

I was hanging on waiting for him to untie the next knot in his intricate story of bloodshed, revenge, love, and the occasional modern event mixed in with the past.
