About this listen

Retired Delta Force officer Brad Taylor's thrilling new short story takes us back to before the Taskforce was created, revealing the origins of Israeli agents Aaron and Shoshana as they are tasked with eliminating a former Nazi officer hiding in plain sight.

It is 1998. A year after a disastrous mission in Amman, Jordan, Israeli operative Aaron Bergman and his Samson team feel more like outcasts than ever. Fearful that his team is about to be disbanded, Aaron is thrown another curve: a cast-off operative named Shoshana, whom nobody in the Mossad trusts, and whom all feel is a traitor. When the new commander of the Mossad summons them immediately after being sworn in, Aaron's fears are confirmed. The team is cut free from the Mossad but not from serving their new leader.

Unsanctioned by the Israeli government, their mission is to assassinate a Nazi murderer from Auschwitz: a man who stood guard on the wall of death and has since escaped to Argentina, and who is running a lucrative business with his sons. When Aaron and Shoshana accept the mission, it sets them on a collision course with an active operation involving a reborn Nazi web intertwined with Iran, forcing the pair to trust each other as the evil they were tasked with destroying sets its sights on one last strike against Israel no one sees coming.

I was expecting a Pike Logan/Taskforce short story with the new Pike Logan novel being released in 60 days. The Target is set in 1998 which is before the Taskforce was initiated. The protagonists are two Israeli Mossad agents, Aaron and Shoshana, who played major roles in the Pike Logan thriller Days of Rage. Apparently Brad Taylor's fans liked the pair.

The target is a rock solid 5 star espionage thriller. Eric Singer narrates which is a surprise because no Brad Taylor audiobook has been narrated by him before and he is not narrating the upcoming Taylor novel.

This one caught me by surprise

This is the first time I have read a book by Brad Taylor. Several people have recommended his books to me. I thought I would use this short story to sample his writing. Taylor is a retired Delta Force Officer who writes military thrillers. This is book #10.5 in the Pike Logan Series.

This short story takes place before the task force was formed and features the Mossad agents. It takes place in 1998. The Samson Team, Aaron Bergman and Daniel, are sent off to Argentina on an “unsanctioned” mission to assassinate a Nazi murderer from Auschwitz. A new team member has been assigned to the mission, Shoshana a disgraced agent. Shoshana discovers a Nazi web interwoven with Iran that is planning a strike against Israel. To intervene Aaron and Daniel will need to trust Shoshana. Shoshana displays loyalty, endurance and skill.

The story is well written and action packed. It is a short story so the pace is rapid.
Erik Signer does a good job narrating the story. Singer is a stage actor and audiobook narrator.

I liked the characters and the plot. The narrator performed all right. A good entertainment.

Classic spy-soldier story.

As always, Taylor delivers with a great story. Unfortunately Mr. Singer made it quite confusing after listening to all of the books leading to this one. French accents with Spanish and Israeli characters, as well as pronouncing the names of the characters falsely made it hard to follow.

Great story, poor narration.
