About this listen

In a sleepy, coastal, New England town, three men decide to rob and, if need be, torture a very old sea captain to learn where he keeps his wealth - a man who is so old no one ever remembers him being young; a man who pays for his purchases not with dollars but with ancient gold and silver coins minted over two centuries ago; a man who speaks to spirits in bottles; a man who may not be a man at all.

SonicMovies are premium audios with strong vocal performances enhanced by music and sound effects to such an extent that they sound like movies - hence, SonicMovies. Presented by Wollcott & Sheridan (WSAPL.com) / SonicMovie.net & K. Anderson Yancy.

Terrible Old Man is a good story & Yancy makes it

This story is very interesting and I enjoyed it very much. K. Anderson Yancy is an AWEsome narrator & his voice is absolutely perfect for my favorite genre. The rest of the Sonic Performers are corny. Mr. Yancy stands alone, basking within his own perfection.

Avoid Purchasing!

After purchasing three hundred plus books from audible this is my first unquestionable regret. Combining a great author with an unintelligible narrator is a waste of time and money!

Very misleading, don’t waste your $

This is Not a full book! It’s a total of about 10 minutes of a short story that isn’t very well done. The “reader” is nearly unintelligible with way too much echo and background noise.
It’s a ridiculous waste of $!

Bad special effects

The narration has been layered with an echo effect that makes the performance virtually unintelligible.

Nearly Impossible to Hear the Actual Story

OMG! There’s so much added noise and garbled “effects”. If you can read this on kindle instead of listening, (and repeatedly having to rewind and try listening with just one ear, and then the other trying to decipher what the narrator is mumbling about, then do not waste your time. Lovecraft is really neat at times, but whomever decided to include all of the bizarre sound effects and background noise, really effed this whole thing up. Don’t they have anyone- anyone at all - to provide some Quality Control. Anyone that hears this abstract must agree that it’s completely hosed from so much added sound effects. And when there’s nothing obvious- like creaking doors, and ghostly moans and groans, they simply put so much reverb and distortion into it that even after 4 or 5 times in a row, slowly, then faster, then with one ear covered, etcetera, you still can’t hear it clearly enough to be even partly sure of what was said. Kindle is the only solution for this.
I’m only leaving this review so that hopefully they’ll cut out all the added garbage and sound effects botching it all up.
