Publisher's summary

The day Mike's dealer failed to show up was the catalyst that forced Mike and his girlfriend, Rosie, to take the first steps on a sometimes bizarre and tragic journey.

Their addiction compels them to steal from the type of people that would stop at nothing to retrieve their treasure. Slowly the couple become progressively more entangled in a web of their own making.

The story begins in London. Rosie receives a Valentines gift, which she may later regret accepting. As a naturally shy girl, Rosie hadn't wanted to be in a relationship with Mike. He had trapped her and now it was to late to extricate herself from the situation. However, fate intervenes and swings their fortunes back and forth like a pendulum, from love to hate and from treachery to tragedy.

May be listened to as a stand-alone.

A very emotional story

I enjoyed this story about Rosie and Mike's world of crime and drug addiction played through their desperate relationship. The narration suits the world that E.M.G. Wixley expertly life. Mike is some piece of works and you feel sorry for Rosie. A great story well worth a listen to.

Not sure what I was expecting, but I certainly felt it.

Let me start by saying I received a copy in exchange for my honest review of it.

That said, I knew nothing of the book going in, apart to it being an early (or possibly the author’s first) work, so I approached with an open mind. And I’m glad that I did. The book is an intriguing look into the horrors of drug culture that bring Wallace’s “Infinite Jest” to mind.

Stylistically, you can tell the author is finding their bearing and developing a style in the beginning of the book which coalesces into a whole by the end, but there’s a strong story that kept me coming back for more.

At times beautiful and horrific, this is definitely worth a read. This work has added the author to my “to check out in more depth” list.

A bizarre story of drug use.

I guess any book on drug use would be bizarre. After all, when a person is on drugs, very little makes sense. This is a story of the mysterious allure drugs have on those addicted. How it puts people in really bad and abusive situations. But it is also a book on breaking free from it and progressing without it when a person is ready and is given the security they crave. All in all, this is a great book filled with stress and success.
