About this listen

She saw the knight in the mirror at sunset....

During the wedding festivities of his king, Cyan Dag, a knight of Gloinmere, is sought out by a mysterious bard and told a terrifying tale: that the king has married a false queen - a lie cloaked in ancient and powerful sorcery. Spurred on by his steadfast honor and loyalty, Cyan departs on a dangerous quest to rescue the real queen from her tower prison, to prevent war, and to awaken magic in a land that has lost its way.

another unique story

Mckillip's writing is almost impossible to categorize. She wrote incredibly beautiful, mesmerizing and occasionally eerie tales. I continually go back to them, each time finding some new facet to savor.

Luminous and lyrical

This is one of my favorite books by Patricia McKillip. The story is lovely and the narration is excellent. I would love to see even more of her books on Audible! (like The Bell at Sealey Head and Something Rich and Strange for example)

Ethereal and delightful

I have this in audio and hardcover and return to it regularly. I love the intricate intertwining plots and the poetic language

A long time favorite.

very good book, full of eldritch magic and fate, and enduring love. the narrator does absolute justice to the prose. Patricia a mckillip crafts stories akin to faerie tales in their flow and beauty

beautifully written

I love to read and reread many of Patricia McKillip’s books. To anyone who likes original and beautifully written fantasy this and her other books are wonderful. Her character development is good, i especially like Sel, the probably selkie who relearned her magic and her daughters. She conveys a real feeling for the poverty and need of the islands and the desperation of its leaders. And her language is like poetry. Her books are like jewels, each one complete and full of light. I get so tired of the books that continue to another book and on to another. Copies of Tolkien abound with same old characters in them, the young man, the damsel in distress, the mentor all on some sort of quest. There are so many that are just alike. But her books are each an entity complete, with the exception of the riddlemaster three.

My opinion of this story

I live her books, but I could not get through this one. The characters all sound the same...the story line is very fractured, ehich in her other books I can follow, but not on the book

couldnt finish....
