About this listen

My name is Hedi Peacock and I have a secret. I'm not human, and I have the pointy Fae ears and Were inner-bitch to prove it. As fairy tales go, my childhood was damn near perfect, all fur and magic until a werewolf killed my father and the Fae executed my mother. I've never forgiven either side. Especially Robson Trowbridge. He was a part-time werewolf, a full-time bastard, and the first and only boy I ever loved. That is, until he became the prime suspect in my father's death....

Today I'm a half-breed barista working at a fancy coffee house, living with my loopy Aunt Lou and a temperamental amulet named Merry, and wondering where in the world I'm going in life. A pretty normal existence, considering. But when a pack of Weres decides to kidnap my aunt and force me to steal another amulet, the only one who can help me is the last person I ever thought I'd turn to: Robson Trowbridge. And he's as annoyingly beautiful as I remember. That's the trouble with fate: Sometimes it barks. Other times it bites. And the rest of the time it just breaks your heart. Again....

Performed by Colleen Delany, Jonathan Feuer, Scott McCormick, Patrick Bussink, Nanette Savard, Gregory Linington, Dawn Ursula, Kimberly Gilbert, Joel David Santner, Eva Wilhelm, Gabriela Fernandez-Coffey, Eric Messner, Michael John Casey, Thomas Keegan, Bob Payne, Laura C Harris, Elizabeth Jernigan, Christopher Graybill, Drew Kopas, Rebecca Sheir, Matthew Bassett, Terence Aselford, Yasmin Tuazon.

performance is Amazing!

The story is a little too detailed in some areas, and not in others. But as this is just the first storyin the series, i look forward to the growth.

creative story

the story was interesting, the background sound effects was a little loud on some spots and made it hard to follow along with the tardis whooshing sound playing (not exactly the tardis, but maybe a slowed down version.) The romance felt like it went from 0 to 60, I'll blame the shifter bond. But they're a cute couple and I'm curious how the story will continue

Avoid the audio book at all costs

So the graphic on the cover describes "A movie in your mind" and at first, the sound effects and cheesy music didn't bother me. I even was sort of enjoying the silliness of it. But about the time the first love scene happens, someone, somewhere made the choice to incorporate kissing and moaning sound effects, along with a cheesy pseudo 70s style adult-movie soundtrack.

It. Is. Uncomfortable.

Up until then, the acting performances were... okay overall, although there were some line reading choices I wondered about, but it was a solid three stars. After that, however, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to finish the book at this point to be able to tell you more about the plot. And for the record, I'm no prude. I generally have no problem listening to far raunchier scenes in audio format.

I wish I could return it, but apparently, I can't dislike more than one book in a certain arbitrary period of time and Audible's return policy won't allow me to. Trust me, whatever that other book I returned was, the kiss-into-the-microphone sound effects in this one were worse and I would take that one back just to get rid of this one.

Why is she so soft hearted?

The female main characters is weak and pathetic. Why isn’t she fighting back. Why hasn’t she harden her heart and left her aunt to die.

Extra Noises Not Necessary

I understand the concept the producer(s) was going for with the added sounds in the background but beyond those depicting the action happening in the moment, any other sounds like music or what I consider to be just plain noise is not needed and detracts from the story. It got to be so noisy at times that it was difficult to hear what was said by the characters and it started giving me a headache trying to figure it out. I listen to books for enjoyment, not for stress and sadly I was just in the 2nd chapter! I had to end this early. The story itself seems interesting, I may decide to read it, after some time has passed and I no longer have the background noise in my memories to distract. I enjoy full cast audiobooks but this goes way too far.
