About this listen

On the run from the horrid man to whom her father has betrothed her, Maggie Bryce is caught in a wild winter storm, forced to take refuge in a highland cave.

Iain McEwen and his men are chasing the scourge of the Highlands known only as Alpin, infamous for the horrific crimes he's visited upon Caithness, when they stumble upon a near frozen body in a cave on the side of a hill. He's shocked to discover it's a woman, and a bonny one at that.

It's only a few days trapped in the caves, but Iain and Maggie are swiftly and eagerly drawn to each other. But her betrothed finds her when the storm clears, and Iain has no choice but to let her go.

The months that pass until Iain sees Maggie again are not kind to either of them. When he does find her, she is so very different from the cheery enchantress he'd met in the caves during that fateful storm. Iain vows never to fail Maggie again and is determined to convince her that she can trust both him and his love.

Contains mature themes.

Excellent Continuation of the Series

I am not sure why this book has a couple of bad reviews. I thought the author did a great job in developing the characters as well as closing the loop from the previous book. While this book was not as "dark" as the previous ones it is not a duplicate book. It does bring in the characters from the previous book but in my opinion that help with the continuation of the series. Also I appreciate that the book can be heard or read as a stand alone too. I'm looking forward to hearing more books from this author and good grief how I love the narrator! It was a nice escape, thank you Ms. Ruger.

My new Favorite Series and Author

I really like the style of the author's writing. Her detail is just enough for you to picture the characters and the scene as well as the actions. The performance is great as well! Different an interesting storylines as well.

Ian and Maggie

This story was so much darker than the previous stories in this series. I cried multiple times for Maggie. I was so happy when she and Ian were together again. Great story. I just wasn't prepared for how much heartache there would be.

Narrator was wonderful!

Another great book

Like all Bec’s books I enjoyed this one as well, I have read some reviews that weren’t very good but I consider that person a moron. This is a great book with a sweet story, a little darkness, but it has to be said. I won’t give anything away but I’m glad I added this to my library.

This was not your typical Regency. It did not shy away from the brutal reality that not everyone escapes unscathed.

I don’t believe there was a disagreeable part. I thoroughly enjoyed the telling. Well said.

Duplicate Book

I waited weeks for this book to be released on May 31, 2022. Well I already heard this book. Don't know if this book.was written by another author, narrator etc. and then released by this author. RIP OFF and Audible will not let me return.
